God Allows Some People to Damn Themselves to Better Manifest His Perfection

God created man with free will.  He allows Sin and permits People to Damn Themselves to manifest His Justice, Mercy, and Goodness — for His Greater Honor and Glory.

God allows evil for His greater glory and in order to bring about greater good.[1]  God allows some people to (voluntarily) sin and to damn themselves because their damnation manifests God’s Justice more clearly than if damnation had been something which never occurred but which we understood only as something that could have – but didn’t – ever happen.

Similarly, God’s Mercy and Goodness in saving the elect is more manifest in contrast to the actual damnation of other souls, since the damned very evidently manifest what could have happened to the elect, had God not chosen to save them, because of His Mercy and Goodness.

Although sin itself is evil, this universe which God made, in which He allows sin and damnation, is a better universe as a whole, because it manifests God’s Mercy, Goodness and Justice better than if there had been no sin.  By better manifesting God’s perfections, the universe gives greater Glory to God.[2]  For God’s only end is His Own Glory, that is, Himself.  Any other end (less than God) is unworthy of God.[3]

Thus, we see that, for His own Glory and to manifest His perfections, God saves some persons and gives them happiness.  Likewise, for His own Glory and to manifest His perfections, God allows some persons to damn themselves and be unhappy.[4]

God chooses the elect, whereas the damned, with their free will, cause their own damnation.

God can and does save anyone He wishes to save.  God never forces anyone to sin and never forces anyone to damn himself.  However, there are some men that God allows to damn themselves.

Sacred Scripture infallibly declares:

The heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever He will He shall turn it.

Proverbs 21:1 (emphasis added).

When this passage from Proverbs says God turns the heart of the king “whithersoever He will”, it shows that whenever God chooses to save the king (or anyone else), He does it without forcing a man’s free will.[5]  Notice that Sacred Scripture does not say that God can turn the heart of the king unless the king is one of those unconvertable souls.  There is no such thing (among the living) as a soul which God could not convert.  Although God can convert anyone, He allows some men to damn themselves.  St. Thomas Aquinas and other Doctors of the Catholic Church teach these same truths.[6]

In a certain way, it is true that God Wills all men to be saved, but this is (as it were) a “contingent will” or “antecedent will” subject to a condition that was not fulfilled.

St. Paul teaches that God “will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4.  However, God wills all men to be saved upon a condition which was not fulfilled, viz., that there be no sin.

Because sin entered the world, God’s eternal, unconditional Will (i.e., His “subsequent” Will) is that some persons are not saved and are not even “called” through grace.  Our Lord teaches: “many [not all] are called but few are chosen.” St. Matthew’s Gospel, 22:14 (bracketed words added).

Also, Our Lord teaches us that most people go to hell and few people even find the path to salvation (much less follow this path):

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.  How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!

St. Matthew’s Gospel, 7:13-14 (emphasis added).

Among the examples of men that God could have saved but chose not to save (or even give them any grace), are babies who die without baptism, and also “the profane Samaritans [whom], had He so willed, He would have made devout” (words of St. Ambrose, quoted in the note above).

Absolutely and unconditionally speaking, God does not desire all men to be saved but Wills to allow some men to damn themselves through their own free will.

Although God Wills (in a manner of speaking) to save all men, subject to a condition which was not fulfilled, unconditionally God Wills to bring about His greater glory by saving the elect He has chosen and He Wills to allow the damned to damn themselves by their own voluntary sins.  This is why Our Lord did not pray for everyone, in His prayer to His Father after the Last Supper.  Here are His words to His Heavenly Father:

I have manifested Thy name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world.  Thine they were, and to me thou gavest them; and they have kept thy word.  Now they have known, that all things which thou hast given me, are from thee:  Because the words which thou gavest me, I have given to them; and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.  I pray for them:  I pray not for the world, but for them whom thou hast given me: because they are thine ….

St. John’s Gospel, 17:6-9.

God chooses His Elect.  They don’t choose Him.  As Christ told His Apostles, who were the beginning of His Church:

You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you ….

St. John’s Gospel, 15:16.

Since it is false that Christ desires absolutely and unconditionally that all men are saved, we should not hope to fulfill Christ’s (supposed) desire for universal salvation, promoted by the liberal N-SSPX and by the rest of the conciliar church.

We should not hope for impossible things.  So, for example, we should not hope we become angelic spirits or that we sprout wings and fly into the air.  Likewise, it is impossible for all men to be saved and so we should not hope for universal salvation, but rather we should hope to help bring about the salvation of whomever God chooses to save from their own voluntary sins.

We don’t know with certainty which people around us God chooses as His elect,[7] so God Wills that we try to help everyone save his soul, although we know God does not choose to save everyone but allows some men to damn themselves.

Also, as shown above, Our Lord does not Will unconditionally that all men go to heaven.  If He had chosen to save all men, He could have saved them since He can turn their hearts “whithersoever He will” (Proverbs).  Instead God allows some men to damn themselves.  (It is important to note that God does not damn souls but He allows them to damn themselves!)

Thus, we see that the N-SSPX is wrong when it recently taught that we should hope to fulfill Christ’s desire for universal salvation.  Here are the N-SSPX’s words:

Only when the Church is brought back to full health can we hope to fulfill Christ’s desire that all men come to know Him and find salvation.  Supporting the SSPX is about bringing the Gospel to all of those with ears to hear in the hope that, by God’s grace, hearts will be converted, and souls saved.[8]

Conclusion

The elect in heaven have great reason to be humble and grateful, since, in God’s Goodness and Mercy, He gave them the undeserved, free gifts of grace and salvation.  God was not obligated to give them grace and not obliged to choose them as His elect.

We hope to save our souls and hope to be among God’s elect.  We have great reason to be humble and grateful because God gave us grace and made us Catholics without our deserving these free gifts.  Thus, we must humbly beg God that He choose us to be among His elect.

Let us Glorify God for the Goodness and Mercy He showed us by making us Catholics, giving us the full Traditions of His true Church!

[1]          Here is how St. Thomas Aquinas (the Greatest Doctor of the Catholic Church) explains this truth, quoting St. Augustine, Doctor of the Church:

As Augustine says (Enchiridion xi): “Since God is the highest good, He would not allow any evil to exist in His works, unless His omnipotence and goodness were such as to bring good even out of evil.”  This is part of the infinite goodness of God, that He should allow evil to exist, and out of it produce good.

Summa, Ia, Q.2 a.3, ad 1 (emphasis added).

[2]
Here is St. Thomas’ fuller explanation of this truth:

It is the part of the best agent to produce an effect which is best in its entirety; but this does not mean that He makes every part of the whole the best absolutely, but in proportion to the whole; in the case of an animal, for instance, its goodness would be taken away if every part of it had the dignity of an eye. Thus, therefore, God also made the universe to be best as a whole, according to the mode of a creature; whereas He did not make each single creature best, but one better than another.  And therefore, we find it said of each creature, “God saw the light, that it was good” (Genesis 1:4); and in like manner of each one of the rest.  But of all together it is said, “God saw all the things that He had made, and they were very good” (Genesis 1:31).

Summa, Ia, Q.47, a.2, ad 1 (emphasis added).

[3]
Here is how St. Thomas explains this truth:

[E]ach and every creature exists for the perfection of the entire universe. Furthermore, the entire universe, with all its parts, is ordained towards God as its end, inasmuch as it imitates, as it were, and shows forth the Divine goodness, to the glory of God.

Summa, Ia, Q.65., a2, respondeo (emphasis added).

God loves mankind and the rest of creation because they are His work and He gave them whatever goodness they have.  But they are finite goods which God loves finitely as part of His infinite love for Himself.  For a fuller explanation of this truth, read this article: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/faith/god-does-not-infinitely-love-any-creature.html

[4]
Here is how St. Thomas Aquinas (quoting St. Paul) explains this Truth of the Catholic Faith:

Let us then consider the whole of the human race, as we consider the whole universe.  God Wills to manifest His goodness in men; in respect to those whom He predestines, by means of His mercy, as sparing them; and in respect of others, whom he reprobates, by means of His justice, in punishing them.

This is the reason why God elects some and rejects others.  To this, the Apostle refers, saying (Romans 9:22-23):

What if God, willing to show His wrath [that is, the vengeance of His justice], and to make His power known, endured [that is, permitted] with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction; that He might show the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He hath prepared unto glory;

and (2 Timothy 2:20):

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver; but also, of wood and of earth; and some, indeed, unto honor, but some unto dishonor.

Summa, Ia Q. 23 a.5, ad 3 (emphasis added).  The bracketed words (in the quotes from St. Paul) are contained in the Summa.

[5]          For an explanation how God never acts against man’s free will even in those whom He chooses to save, read the article here: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/priests/williamson-bishop-williamson-teaches-the-heresy-that-even-god-is-powerless-to-save-some-men.html

[6]          St. Thomas Aquinas, following and quoting the Doctor of the Church, St. Ambrose, teaches that:

God calls whom He deigns to call, and whom He wills He makes religious: the profane Samaritans, had He so willed, He would have made devout.

Summa, IIa IIae, Q.82, a.3, respondeo (emphasis added).

Just as in the Book of Proverbs we see that God can convert the king if He chooses to do so, similarly St. Ambrose teaches that God can convert any profane Samaritans He chooses to convert.

St. Thomas Aquinas, following St. Augustine, the Doctor of Grace, teaches that God can save anyone He wishes to save.  Here are their words:

Hence it is impossible for these two things to be true at the same time — that the Holy Ghost should will to move a certain man to an act of charity, and that this man, by sinning, should lose charity.  For the gift of perseverance is reckoned among the blessings of God whereby “whoever is delivered, is most certainly delivered, ” as Augustine says in his book On the Predestination of the Saints (De Dono Persev. xiv).

Summa, IIa IIae, Q.24, a.11, respondeo (emphasis added).

Charity always comes with Sanctifying Grace and makes a man the friend of God.  In the quote immediately above, St. Augustine teaches that the Holy Ghost will move any man to charity (and Sanctifying Grace) if He chooses to convert him.

[7]          St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine assure us that we cannot know with certainty why God chooses some people as His elect and not others.  Here are St. Thomas’s words, quoting St. Augustine:

Yet why He chooses some for glory, and reprobates others [i.e., allows them to damn themselves], has no reason, except the Divine Will.  Whence Augustine says (Tract. xxvi. in Joan.):

Why He draws one, and another He draws not, seek not to judge, if thou dost not wish to err.

Summa, Ia Q. 23 a.5, ad 3 (bracketed words added for context).

Wegner mass-mailed to everyone on the SSPX U.S. District mailing list and also posted here https://sspx.org/en/news-events/news/fr-wegner-pray-mary-remember-your-mothers-and-pray-holy-mother-church-47813?mc_cid=e244c8c82b&mc_eid=4fbfee0c0b

Is There Room for Compromise, Gradualism, Liberalism, and Modernism in the Catacombs?

Catholic Candle note:  The following article helps to explain how salvation is surely possible for uncompromising Traditional Catholics, who for a time are without the Mass and Sacraments, at least in most places.  One doesn’t have to compromise his principles and overlook liberalism just so that he can have the Sacraments and the Mass (with a compromising priest).

If a person responds to the above question that he has to overlook some liberalism to “secure the sacraments” (at least in most places), then this person is really compromising, along with:

     1.  seven bishops;

     2.  hundreds of priests;

     3.  thousands of gullible followers of the liberal N-SSPX; and

     4.  other liberal religious communities, (like the Fraternity of St. Peter).

These groups say that those Catholics who are truly uncompromising, are too strict and are wrong.  I ask: Is it, then, also wrong to be too loyal to Our Lord?

Currently, uncompromising Traditional Catholics are without an uncompromising priest or bishop (at least in most places).  God will provide in His own good time for the needs of the loyal soldier in the battle against corrupt conciliar church leaders in Rome and Catholics who are (objectively) compromising.

It’s not easy to live in the catacombs, but there are compensations – like extra graces – as those in the catacombs can attest.  One will also feel grateful and happy that he is doing his part in this great worldwide fight for Christ the King, when so many have abandoned Him.  (“This part” might include speaking often against liberalism, wherever you find it.)

Also, uncompromising Traditional Catholics find they have a closer friendship with Christ and want to do more, e.g., setting a most-needed good example for others to follow in a world that has rejected Christ.

Many clergy who are (objectively) compromising were on the right track but then weakened, I believe, because of pride.[1]  Or perhaps because they lacked the moral courage to resist the liberal direction their N-SSPX leaders (or others) had taken.  Also, the N-SSPX leaders were too concerned about the number of followers they had and were anxious to avoid defections.  This is a critical consideration in order to make a deal with the anti-Catholic conciliar church in Rome.  Rome doesn’t want the mass defection (from the liberal N-SSPX) of persons who would fight against the conciliar church and liberalism in order to return Rome to tradition.

Many lay followers were not concerned about small compromises with liberalism and so they gradually abandoned Archbishop Lefebvre’s stand for tradition.  These followers mistakenly believed that to be saved you must have the Mass and Sacraments without interruption.  It’s easy for a person within a large group to rationalize his defection from tradition and from Christ, by falsely believing God will understand because He knows people need the Mass and Sacraments.  Oh, no He won’t!  He really expects and wants loyalty and sacrifice.

The last fifty-five years show the majority of religious leaders were quick to abandon tradition and succumb to the liberalism of Vatican II, much the same as the apostles abandoned Christ during His Passion.  If one has to choose between the path of being loyal to Our Lord (including uncompromising tradition), and the path of overlooking liberalism in a compromise group in order to receive the Mass and the Sacraments, I know which path really leads to salvation!

Those who compromise are sure to ask how does one expect salvation without a priest and confession?  Well, with God’s help, where there’s a will there’s a way.  One surely doesn’t have the luxury of giving in to his passions or temptations and then being “excused” by a Saturday afternoon confession.  However, since we are all sinners, and we could possibly fall into grave sin despite extra graces at the time of death, the prospect of dying without (an uncompromising priest for) confession  would be horrifying were it not for the knowledge that a merciful God has provided for this with a perfect Act of Contrition.[2]  This prayer, said sincerely and with God’s help, is literally a God-send.  United with a pledge to go to (an uncompromising priest for) confession when available, this heartfelt prayer restores the dying person to grace at once.

Uncompromising Traditional Catholics who are currently without an uncompromising priest are given extra graces and spiritual strength to help fight against evil and temptations, as those persons can attest.

We must avoid compromises such as accepting sacraments and sacramentals from a compromising priest or bishop (although we must not judge their interior culpability).  Accepting even one such compromise is the start of gradualism, the seat of liberalism and damnation.  Such situations give apparent approval to the compromising bishop or priest.  It is important to be consistent in all our actions.  If not, one bad concession causes a person to lose his credibility and his ability to set a good example – maybe forever.

Let’s pray hard, be happy, and confident that we are in the right place by not compromising, and by doing what we can for Christ the King, Who is in charge and will triumph in the end!

Perfect contrition, with the desire of receiving the Sacrament of Penance, restores the sinner to grace at once.  This is certainly the teaching of the Scholastic doctors (Peter Lombard in P.L., CXCII, 885; St. Thomas, In Lib. Sent. IV, ibid.; St. Bonaventure, In Lib. Sent. IV, ibid.).

The Baseless Climate-Change Scare aims to usher in the New World Order

Catholic Candle note:  This article pertains to the hoax that there is a human-caused, climate-change emergency.  The article does not pertain to the natural cycles of the climate which result in no year’s weather being identical to any other year’s weather, nor any century’s weather being identical to any other century’ weather.  Those natural fluctuations have always occurred and always will occur.  There are long-term cycles and short-term cycles.  That is how God created the world.

The second half of the article (below) discusses how the conciliar popes have promoted an important goal of the enemies of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  However, a reader would be mistaken if he assumed that these popes’ cooperation in this evil somehow means that they lost the papacy.

Sedevacantism is wrong and is (material or formal) schism.  Catholic Candle is not sedevacantist.  On the contrary, we published a series of articles showing that sedevacantism is false (and also showing that former Pope Benedict is not still the pope).  Read the articles here: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/faith/against-sedevacantism.html

In the 1970s, the government and media hyped a global-cooling climate scare which they called “the new ice age” – until it became too clear to everyone that the world was not cooling in any relevant way.[1]

Then, beginning in the 1980s, the climate scare was global-warming – until it became very clear that the evidence did not support this hoax.[2]

Consequently, the New World Order elites (working for a one-world government) began promoting “climate change” as their preferred climate “emergency” because this allows them to use all bad weather to further their power-grab agenda.

Moreover, normal “bad” weather is now often hyped in the extreme.  Here are the words of one Time magazine writer who contrasts this current hype to earlier times when routine “bad” weather was merely treated as routine:

Now, every cold front that threatens to slicken roads and cause airport delays along the Eastern corridor (where, not merely coincidentally, almost all network TV news executives live and work) has become urgent news.  And not just in winter.  Springtime thunderstorms, summer heat waves, the first cold snap of the fall — all of them get breathless treatment, often accompanied by a barrage of scary stats: “14 states under severe weather watches”; “24 million people at risk for the possibility of tornadoes”; “43 million people at risk for flash flooding.” I grew up in Kansas City, Mo., in what used to be known as Tornado Alley.  In the late spring and early summer, we were always at risk.  It never seemed to make the national news.[3]

Not only is routine bad weather now hyped in the extreme, but the climate catastrophes of the past are ignored.  The examples are too numerous to count.  For example, in the Central American Country of Belize:

In 1931 an unnamed hurricane destroyed over two-thirds of the buildings in Belize City and killed more than 1,000 people.  In 1955 Hurricane Janet leveled the northern town of Corozal.  Only six years later, Hurricane Hattie struck the central coastal area, with winds in excess of 186 mph and a storm surge (ocean tide) of more than 13 feet.  Hattie was the second hurricane to devastate Belize City, in only thirty years.[4]

Who could doubt that, if those catastrophes occurred now, they would be used as “proof” that climate change is real?

Further, our fallen human nature makes it easy for the New World Order elites to succeed in this climate-scare fraud because fallen man has always been quick to exaggerate any current weather problems and to suppose that the weather was better in the past.  Here is how St. Augustine, Doctor of the Church, explained 1600 years ago how fallen man unreasonably tends to suppose that the weather is becoming more extreme:

Not only did our elders complain about their days, their grandparents too complained about their [own] days.  People have never been pleased with the days they lived in.  But the days of the ancestors please their descendants, and they too were pleased with the days they hadn’t experienced – and that’s precisely why they thought them pleasant.  It’s what’s present that is sharply felt.  I don’t mean it comes nearer, but it touches the heart every day.  Practically every year when we feel the cold we say “It’s never been so cold.”  “It’s never been so hot.”  “It,” “it” – “it” is always in our minds.  But blessed is the man whom You instruct, Lord, to claim him from baleful days, while a pit is being dug for the sinner.[5]

The climate change scare aims at ushering in the power-grab of the New World Order

The purpose of the climate-change hoax is a power-grab.  This hoax aims at destroying what remains of freedom and capitalism[6] in the world’s largest capitalist nation (the U.S.) and destroying national sovereignty to pave the way for a New World Order — i.e., global governance.

This truth was admitted by Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.'s Framework Convention on Climate Change, in February 2015.  At a news conference in Brussels, she admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.  Here are her words:

This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change [i.e. get rid of] the economic development model [i.e., capitalism] that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution.[7]

Referring to the Paris Climate Accord which she was promoting, Figueres added:

This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.[8]

Another of the U.N.'s top climate officials, Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, also admitted that the climate-change scare is not to save the environment but to redistribute the world’s wealth.  Edenhofer, who was co-chair of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Working Group III, made this admission in an interview with the Swiss Newspaper, Neue Zürcher Zeitung.  Here are Edenhofer’s words:

One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy.  This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy, with problems such as forest dying or ozone hole.  …  [O]ne has to say clearly: we are effectively redistributing world wealth through climate policy.[9]

Currently, in the U.S., one aspect of the climate-change hoax (and socialist power-grab), is the Democratic Party’s Green New Deal proposal.  Here is how this proposal is described by the (liberal) New York Times:

What is the Green New Deal?

The Green New Deal is a congressional resolution that lays out a grand plan for tackling climate change.  Introduced by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Senator Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts, both Democrats, the proposal calls on the federal government to wean the United States from fossil fuels and curb planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions across the economy.[10]  …

The resolution uses as its guide two major reports issued last year by the United Nations and by federal scientists who warned that if global temperatures continue to rise, the world is headed for more intense heat waves, wildfires and droughts.[11]

Sponsor, U.S. Representative Ocasio-Cortez, declared that our continued existence requires the Green New Deal.  Here are her words:

Our goal is to treat Climate Change like the serious, existential threat it is by drafting an ambitious solution on the scale necessary – aka a Green New Deal – to get it done.[12]

Examining the Green New Deal shows that it is a collection of goals long sought by the socialists and communists.  It requires Federal Government control throughout many broad parts of people’s lives.  Among many other evils, this proposal mandates the Federal Government to pass many unattainable socialist laws requiring:

  • all carbon emissions are eliminated;
  • all people in the United States have a free higher education;
  • to enforce the sovereignty and land rights of indigenous peoples;

  • all people of the United States have free high-quality health care;

  • all people of the United States have affordable, safe, and adequate housing;

  • all people of the United States have healthy and affordable food;

  • all people of the United States have access to nature;

  • all employers are forced to give paid leave and paid vacations to their employees; and

  • many other mandates of socialism.[13]

As explained above, the Green New Deal’s principal sponsor in the U.S. House of Representatives is liberal New York Democrat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  Concerning this Green New Deal, her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, (who has since left his job) revealed that the Green New Deal is not about “saving the planet”.  Here are his words about the Green New Deal:

It wasn’t originally a climate thing at all … we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.[14]

The New World Order elite is marshalling all of its forces to push the climate-change scare as a means of convincing the world’s population that the climate emergency gives people no choice but to accept unprecedented government control – especially globalist control – of all aspects of life.[15]

The conciliar popes declare we need a world government to solve our climate emergency

The New World Order elites have been tirelessly working to install on the papal throne a pope who furthers their goal of one-world government.  This allows those elites to use the incomparable power of the papacy to advance the New World Order power-grab.

Here is how the Carbonari (the Italian Masons) described their plan to subvert and harness the power of the papacy:

[W]e can conspire at our ease, and arrive little by little at the end we have in view.  …

The Pope, whoever he may be, will never come to the secret societies. It is for the secret societies to come first to the Church, in the resolve to conquer the two.  The work which we have undertaken is not the work of a day, nor of a month, nor of a year. It may last many years, a century perhaps, but in our ranks the soldier dies and the fight continues.  …

That which we ought to demand, that which we should seek and expect, as the Jews expected the Messiah, is a Pope according to our wants.  Alexander VI., with all his private crimes, would not suit us, for he never erred in religious matters. Clement XIV., on the contrary, would suit us from head to foot.  Borgia was a libertine, a true sensualist of the eighteenth century strayed into the fifteenth.  He has been anathematized, notwithstanding his vices, by all the voices of philosophy and incredulity, and he owes that anathema to the vigor with which he defended the Church.  …

We have the little finger of the successor of St. Peter engaged in the plot, and that little finger is of more value for our crusade than all the Innocents, the Urbans, and the St. Bernards of Christianity.  We do not doubt that we shall arrive at that supreme term of all our efforts; but when? but how? The unknown does not yet manifest itself.  Nevertheless, as nothing should separate us from the plan traced out; as, on the contrary, all things should tend to it, — as if success were to crown the work scarcely sketched ….

You will have fished up a Revolution in Tiara and Cope, marching with Cross and banner—a Revolution which it will need but to be spurred on a little to put the four quarters of the world on fire.[16]

This Masonic plan having largely succeeded, the post-Vatican II popes promote the globalist agenda in many ways, including promotion of the climate-change scare.

Shortly after Pope Francis’ election, the Masons declared that he was a plan (i.e., “a design”) fulfilled.  Here are the words of Nicola Spinello, Adjunct-Vicar Grand Master of the Masons of Piazza del Gesù:

I believe that this pope [viz., Francis] is the realization of a design that has long wanted to be adopted.[17]

Pope Francis has hopped onto the climate-scare bandwagon.  He declared that “one of the most serious and worrying phenomena of our time [is] climate change.”[18]  To respond to the supposed climate emergency, Pope Francis declared the need for a global government.  Here are his words:

The twenty-first century, while maintaining systems of governance inherited from the past, is witnessing a weakening of the power of the nation states, chiefly because the economic and financial sectors, being transnational, tends to prevail over the political.  Given this situation, it is essential to devise stronger and more efficiently organized international institutions, which functionaries who are appointed fairly by agreement among national governments and empowered to impose sanctions …[19]

Former Pope Benedict XVI likewise promoted a global government to protect the environment.  Here are his words:

In the face of the unrelenting growth of global interdependence, there is a strongly felt need, even in the midst of a global recession, for a reform of the United Nations Organization, and likewise of economic institutions and international finance, so that the concept of the family of nations can acquire real teeth.  One also senses the urgent need to find innovative ways of implementing the principle of the responsibility to protect and of giving poorer nations an effective voice in shared decision-making. This seems necessary in order to arrive at a political, juridical and economic order which can increase and give direction to international cooperation for the development of all peoples in solidarity. To manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration: for all this, there is urgent need of a true world political authority, as my predecessor Blessed John XXIII indicated some years ago.[20]

Conclusion

We see the climate-change hoax being used to scare people into allowing destruction of national sovereignty and control of the world’s population.  Unbeknownst to most people, the ultimate goal is to prepare conditions for the coming of the antichrist.

Not only is this climate-scare a fraud, but it is a complete reversal of the priorities we should have.  Modern man cares nothing for his soul and focuses entirely on the material world.

Even if the climate scare were not a fraud (as it is), nonetheless worldwide environmental catastrophe is much better than even a single venial sin.  Here is how Cardinal Newman states this truth:

The Catholic Church holds it better for the sun and moon to drop from heaven, for the earth to fail, and for all the many millions on it to die of starvation in extremest agony, as far as temporal affliction goes, than that one soul, I will not say, should be lost, but should commit one single venial sin, should tell one willful untruth, or should steal one poor farthing without excuse.[21]

Even if climate-change were not a hoax, we should put more effort into preventing one venial sin than stopping climate-change.

Let us not be deceived by the climate-change scare!

Let us remember that the only true evil is sin!

In a capitalistic economy, there is an absence of the government control which the socialists and the communists insist upon.  Thus, socialists and communists hate capitalism.  In capitalism, there is relative freedom – which is why the New World Order elites seek to destroy capitalism because it is incompatible with their vision of world control.

However, the pre-Vatican II popes reminded the world that, even in a capitalist economy, bosses and workers must fulfill the duties of justice and charity that those groups have to each other.  See, e.g., Quadragesimo anno the encyclical issued by Pope Pius XI on 15 May 1931 and Rerum Novarum the encyclical of Leo XIII issued forty years before that.  Thus, unlimited capitalism (doing whatever we can to succeed in business) is also immoral because that would disregard justice and charity.

The Catholic Church’s “Fifth Mark” is Suffering Persecution

There are four Marks of the Catholic Church, by which She is known to be the one true Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.[1]

These Marks are certain signs by which the True Church is known and distinguishable from all other “churches” – which are all false and all do the devil’s work.[2]

However, besides these four Marks of the Church by which She can be definitely known, there is also another mark or sign by which we can know Christ’s true Church: viz., the persecution which the Church perennially suffers from the world and the devil because She always opposes them.

Here is one way that Our Lord teaches that the world’s hatred and persecution of the Church comes from the Church’s opposition to the world:

If you had been of the world, the world would love its own:  but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

St. John’s Gospel, 15:19.

For this reason, The Catechism Explained teaches that persecution is another mark, or sign, by which we know that the Catholic Church is the true Church:

The true Church is that one which is most persecuted by the world ….[3]

The Church must be persecuted, to be Christ-like and because She is Christ-like.

It is inevitable that the Church will be persecuted because She is the Mystical Body of Christ, Her Head.  Because His Body must be like Him, the Church must be persecuted as He was.

Further, the Church is the Spouse of Christ.  Christ ensures that His Spouse will be like Him and so She will be persecuted like Him.

The world hates the Church because it hates Our Lord, as He predicted in these words:

If the world hates you, know ye, that it hath hated Me before you.

St. John’s Gospel, 15:18.

The world’s hatred caused it to persecute Our Lord and similarly to persecute His Church.  Our Lord told his Apostles (who were the Church’s first hierarchy):

If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you ….

St. John’s Gospel, 15:20.

Thus, as Our Lord suffered His Passion, so His Church will suffer Her Passion.  Commenting on St. Matthew’s Gospel where St. Peter, the first pope, followed Our Lord from the Garden of Olives to the court of the High Priest, St. Augustine explains that this event shows:

that the Church will follow, i.e. imitate, the Lord’s Passion, but with a great difference.  For the Church suffers for itself, but Christ [suffered] for the Church.[4]

Not only the Church as an institution, but individual Catholics also will suffer persecution.  St. Paul declared:

All who will live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution ….[5]

The Church and Faithful Catholics benefit from Suffering Persecution.

St. Hilary, Doctor of the Church, teaches that persecutions help the Church.  Here are his words:

It is peculiar to the Church to flourish most when persecuted.[6]

St. Augustine declares that persecutions make Catholics into saints.  Here are St. Augustine’s words:

Persecutions serve to bring forth saints.[7]

Persecution is a type of purging.  Christ describes this purging not only as willed by God but also as brought about by God in some way, for the good of His Church.  Here are Our Lord’s words:

I am the true Vine; and My Father is the Husbandman.  Every branch in Me, that beareth not fruit, He will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, He will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.[8]

In our times, Traditional Catholics show they are faithful and belong to the true Church by bearing this Mark of Suffering Persecution.

Faithful Catholics might “second guess” themselves and wonder if they are on the true path, because they are everywhere discredited and marginalized.  Traditional Catholics are continually lied about and condemned.  With St. Paul, they could be called “deceivers, and yet true”.  2 Corinthians 6:8.  Such persecution puts Traditional Catholics in the good company of those who have followed in Our Lord’s Footsteps throughout Church history.

Cardinal Newman was a historian who wrote about Arian times and wrote the book called The Arians of the Fourth Century.  The persecution of faithful Catholics which occurred then presents obvious parallels to the persecutions Traditional Catholics suffer now.  Here is how Cardinal Newman described Arian times:

The body of bishops failed in their confession of the Faith ….  They spoke variously, one against another; there was nothing after Nicea, of firm, unvarying, consistent testimony [for the Faith], for nearly sixty years.  There were untrustworthy Councils, unfaithful bishops; there was weakness, fear of consequences, misguidance, delusion, hallucination, endless, hopeless, extending into nearly every corner of the Catholic Church.  The comparatively few who remained faithful were discredited and driven into exile; the rest were either deceivers or deceived.[9]

As in Arian Times, likewise now.  We could paraphrase Cardinal Newman’s words to describe our own times, as follows:

The body of bishops failed in their confession of the Faith ….  The different factions of conciliar revolutionaries spoke one against another; there was nothing, starting with Vatican II, of firm, Traditional Faith, for nearly sixty years.  There were untrustworthy synods, unfaithful bishops; there was weakness, worldliness, fear of consequences, modernism in every corner of the human element of the Catholic Church.  The comparatively few, viz., Traditional Catholics, who remained faithful were discredited and marginalized; the rest were either modernists or deceived by modernists.

In the End Times, Bloody Persecution will especially show the true Church as it especially showed the Church in Her Infancy.

Future persecutions will be greater and bloodier than those now.  Sacred Scripture narrates these future persecutions by the anti-christ as follows:

It was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them.   And power was given him over every tribe, and people, and tongue, and nation.  …   And it was given him … that whosoever will not adore the image of the beast, should be slain.

The Apocalypse of St. John the Apostle, 13:7 & 15.

But God is always in charge and those persecutions will work to the good for the elect.  As St. Paul assures us; “All things work together unto the good for those who love God.”  Romans, 8:28.

We should rejoice to be persecuted for the love of Jesus Christ.

Although persecution is not comfortable, it is nothing to fear.  Rather, persecution is a great reason to rejoice.  Here are Our Lord’s words:

Blessed are they that suffer persecution for Justice’s sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you untruly, for My sake.  Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven.[10]

However difficult or painful these persecutions are at the time, they are a small price to pay for Christ’s love and for eternal happiness.  As St. Paul tells us: “I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come”.  Romans, 8:18.

The “new” SSPX is not persecuted like the “old” SSPX was.

The “old” SSPX was viciously attacked by the world and by the conciliar church (which is a false “church” which belongs to the world).[11]  But the “new” SSPX has been weakening for years, becoming more like the world and the conciliar church.[12]

The N-SSPX itself says that it is not attacked like it used to be (although this change is not because the world and the conciliar church are becoming better).  Here are the N-SSPX’s words:

World-wide tradition started out very small.  As soon as it grew, it was attacked.  But now the times changed [sic].[13]

Conclusion

Persecution is (as it were) a “Fifth Mark” by which we can recognize the true Catholic Church.  The Catholic Church and faithful Catholics will face persecution.

Let us face persecution with a strong heart!  Beware of Compromising to Avoid Persecution!

Let us never weaken through growing tired of the persecutions which come.  We must never compromise our Faith but instead live our Faith boldly and fully.

Q. How can the Church of Jesus Christ be distinguished from the numerous societies or sects founded by men, and calling themselves Christian?

A. From the numerous societies or sects founded by men and calling themselves Christian, the Church of Jesus Christ is easily distinguished by four marks: She is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.

Quoted from The Catechism of St. Pius X, section: The Apostle’s Creed, subsection: The Ninth Article of the Creed, part concerning The Church in General, Q.13.

Q. What is a mark?

A. A mark is a given and known sign by which a thing can be distinguished from all others of its kind.  Thus, a trademark is used to distinguish the article bearing it from all imitations of the same article.

False humility, an excuse for not standing up for the Catholic Faith

One might think, either through ignorance or false humility, that because we are not the pope (or at least a bishop), we should not “set ourselves up in judgment” regarding whether the conciliar hierarchy is teaching the truth or not, or whether the conciliar hierarchy’s teachings are consistent with the traditional teaching of the Church.  One might wrongly think that, failing to believe whatever the current hierarchy tells us, shows a “Protestant mentality”, i.e., deciding for ourselves what to believe.

This ignorance or false humility is contrary to the consistent teaching of the Church that every Catholic has the duty to discern whether the members of the hierarchy, without exception, are teaching what the Church has always taught.  For example, St. Paul writes to his converts to whom he taught the Faith:

Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a Gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.

Galatians, 1:8.

And St. Paul emphasizes this point by immediately repeating it:

As we said before, so now I say again: If anyone preach to you a Gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema.

Galatians, 1:9.

But the Galatians might have objected, why should we believe your Gospel on your first visit to Galatia and not an eventually different one on your second?  St. Paul immediately gives a first reason:

The Gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.  For neither did I receive it of man, nor did I learn it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Galatians,1:11-12.

And St Paul confirms this by narrating how little contact he had with those who might have taught him (viz., the other Apostles) before he began preaching.  Galatians, 1:15-19.  The Galatians could verify the facts and St. Paul swears an oath to the Galatians that he is not lying.  Galatians, 1:20.

He gives a second reason a little later, which is the miracles and experience of the Holy Ghost [Galatians, 3:2-5] that the Galatians themselves had witnessed as the direct result of the preaching of St. Paul’s first visit.

Thus, St. Paul confirms that God taught him the Gospel which he had already taught to the Galatians.  St. Paul tells them that they can, and they must, distinguish it from false doctrine.  Each Catholic has this duty.

Many other Catholic authorities have repeated St. Paul’s teaching.  Here is another one:

When the shepherd turns into a wolf, the first duty of the flock is to defend itself.  As a general rule, doctrine comes from the bishops to the faithful, and it is not for the faithful, who are subjects in the order of Faith, to pass judgment on their superiors.  But every Christian, by virtue of his title to the name Christian, has not only the necessary knowledge of the essentials of the treasure of Revelation, but also the duty of safeguarding them.  The principle is the same, whether it is a matter of belief or conduct, that is, of dogma or morals.  Treachery such as that of Nestorius is rare in the Church; but it can happen that, for one reason or another, pastors remain silent on essential matters of faith.  The true children of Holy Church at such times are those who walk by the light of their baptism, not the cowardly souls who, under the specious pretext of submission to the powers that be, delay their opposition to the enemy in the hope of receiving instructions which are neither necessary nor desirable.

The Liturgical Year, Vol. IV, Dom Guéranger; see the entry for the Feast of St. Cyril of Alexandria, February 9th (emphasis added).

Here is another authority: St. Vincent Lerins, in his Commonitorium:

What then should a Catholic do if some part of the Church were to separate itself from communion with the universal Faith?  What other choice can he make but to prefer to the gangrenous and corrupted member, the whole of the body that is sound.  And if some new contagion were to try to poison no longer a small part of the Church, but all of the Church at the same time, then he will take the greatest care to attach himself to antiquity which, obviously, can no longer be seduced by any lying novelty.

Emphasis added.  Note that St. Vincent gives this rule to all Catholics, not only to the bishops or doctors of theology.

We do not give more quotes from authority here because the type of person who suffers under this ignorance or false humility is a prisoner unable to free himself by reference to the consistent teaching of Church authority, because his very error is that his mind is too lowly to discern what those authorities say.  Therefore, we present the following argument of reason instead.

Humans can understand the Catholic Faith, though not perfectly as God does.  Our Faith is presented as a series of statements in each of which a predicate is said of a subject.  Even though the faithful Catholic cannot prove by natural reason, this link (i.e., connection) between the subject and predicate, he knows by Faith that the link exists and thus, that the opposite statement must be false.

If one were to (wrongly) say that a Catholic is forbidden to compare current teachings of the hierarchy, with the consistent teaching of the Church of all time, this would mean that a Catholic is forbidden to understand what he is saying (and believing) when he is professing his Faith.  This position would instead substitute a blind obedience which accepts a mere formula of sounds – devoid of meaning – when professing the Faith.  The Catholic Church has never professed such nominalism.  Instead, the Church wants (and requires) Her children to understand the Faith, not merely memorize sounds or words by rote.

Thus, whereas the Protestants set their own private judgment as the measure and rule of all faith, faithful Catholics set the revealed truth of the Church of all time, as the measure and rule of Faith.  This is infallible Catholic Tradition.  Because the Catholic is allowed (and required) to understand his Faith, the current post-conciliar problem exists because an understanding of the Faith shows plainly that the modern conciliar teachings are the opposite of what Catholics have been required to understand and believe since the earliest times.

That is, a Catholic who knows his Faith today is merely understanding what the Church has always taught.  By knowing what the Church has always taught and knowing what the post-Vatican II hierarchy teaches, he notices that they are often opposites.  To say that a Catholic is forbidden to notice this opposition is simply to say that Catholics are forbidden to understand, and must simply memorize the sounds of words without understanding that they have any meaning.  In other words, the Church of the past (i.e., the Church of all time), judges the present conciliar hierarchy’s teachings.  Faithful Catholics are doing their duty by noticing this fact.

Further, the very fact that Catholics are taught the distinction between infallible and non-infallible magisterial teachings, is because Catholics are taught that the infallible ones cannot conflict with the Catholic Faith but are part of it, whereas non-infallible magisterial teachings might conflict with the Catholic Faith.  This distinction is a warning to Catholics to accept all of the infallible teachings without possibility of error, but to accept the non-infallible ones only provided that they do not conflict with the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church through the ages.  This distinction also shows that Catholics are required not only to understand their Faith but also to understand when current churchmen contradict infallible Catholic Tradition.

Conclusion

Let us stand against the countless conciliar errors which attack the Catholic Faith!  Let us study our Faith so we can truly understand it and pass it on to the next generation!

What Virtue is the Most Misunderstood

Catholic Candle note: The article below was written by a man who has always been Traditional Catholic and who has been continually fighting liberalism since before Vatican II.

That virtue is humility.  Why is it misunderstood and rarely practiced?  Because most people believe it’s a sign of weakness and they expect to be taken advantage of.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Our Lord was meek and humble of heart, but He stood up to the Pharisees many times.  (He twice cleared the temple of merchants and thieves with a whip.)

To be humble is courageous and far from cowardly.  Our free will is prone to pride, the antithesis of humility.  So, we must fight against the sin of pride.  Our first parents were filled with pride and were put out of Paradise because of it.

There are many benefits from practicing the virtue of humility.  With pride, stress, envy and anger are sure to follow, whereas a humble person has continuous peace.  If there is good in you, you see more good in others, so that you may remain humble.[1]

Below are listed things you should know about humility and how it can affect your peace of soul and your salvation.  The points listed are from the Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. VII, page 544.

Humility is a repressing virtue opposed to pride.

Humility is said to be the foundation of the spiritual edifice.

Humility is the first virtue, inasmuch as it removes the obstacles to Faith.

It removes pride and makes a person subject to, and a fit recipient of, grace.

God resisteth the proud and giveth His grace to the humble.

Humility keeps the mind and heart submissive to reason and to God, and it may therefore be said to be a universal virtue.  It is, therefore, a virtue which is necessary for salvation.  Our Lord said, “Learn of Me, because I am meek and humble of heart.”

The virtue of humility is of such importance that many Catholic authorities have addressed it over the centuries.

The following points about humility and how it will affect your peace of soul and your salvation are from The Imitation of Christ, Book I, Chapters 6 and 7:

·         When a person desires a thing too much, he at once becomes ill at ease.  A proud and avaricious man never rests, whereas he who is poor and humble of heart lives in a world of peace.

·         It may happen, too, that while one’s own opinion may be good, refusal to agree with others when reason and occasion demand it, is a sign of pride and obstinacy.

·         God helps the humble and humbles the proud.

If you feel guilty when you push yourself forward, you have a start at understanding humility.   The dictionary definition of humility is: “implying absence of vanity and arrogance; meekness, and absence of wrath or vindictiveness”.  These are all qualities you need to save your soul.

God created man and angels to have a free will, which is required for a personal and meaningful decision of servitude.  Lucifer rejected humility in favor of pride. (“Non serviam!”)  Thus, he was cast into hell for all eternity.  Humility is that golden key that opens the Gates of Heaven.  Humility puts God first and ourselves second.

Humility opens a person’s heart and mind to better listen to God speak, and is a “direct line” to know His will.

Humility does not exempt someone from hard work and doing his best to do God’s will in his state of life or holy vocation.

The virtue of humility separates us from the animal world by controlling our passions.

Pride, the antithesis of humility, rules the world in all aspects, causing wars, murders, etc

Liberalism and modernism are caused by sins of pride.

Let us pray for a better understanding of humility, and that it is practiced by all, especially traditional Catholics and priests in the real resistance.

The Evil of Vaccines made from Murdered Babies

We live in a godless society and there are countless evils around us.  For example, in some places, for some diseases (like chickenpox), one can only obtain vaccines whose manufacturers used cell lines from murdered babies, as disease cultures for manufacturing the vaccine.[1]

The conciliar church is lax and liberal and approves receiving vaccines which come from the cell lines of murdered babies, unless there is an alternative vaccine which does not use murder.  But there are three reasons it is wrong to accept these vaccines manufactured using the cell lines of murdered babies:

1.    Using those vaccines promotes future murders.

2.    Using those vaccines rewards persons connected with the murders.

3.    We incur guilt for those murders, by our consent.

Below, we discuss each of these reasons.

1.   Using those vaccines promotes future murders.

Using the cell lines from murdered babies encourages future murders whenever pharmaceutical companies deem it to be convenient and profitable to commit more murders for use in vaccine research or production.

Because people did not refuse vaccines coming from the 1960s-era cell lines taken from murdered babies, drug companies, labs, and researchers felt “free” to commit more murders to create new cell lines.  For example, a new cell line from a new murdered baby, was announced in 2015.[2]

Accepting those vaccines manufactured through murdered babies, promotes future murders (and every murder of an innocent human is a murder too many)!  Thus, when you use a vaccine produced through murder, the drug companies are encouraged to commit additional murders to keep vaccine production high.

2.   Using those vaccines rewards persons connected with the murders.

It is wrong to use vaccines produced from murdered babies because using these vaccines enables manufactures to profit through the murders.  We should not help drug companies make wickedness profitable!

3.   We incur guilt for the babies’ murders, by our consent.

We become culpable for someone else’s sin by consenting to it.[3]  When St. Paul teaches us this truth about sharing someone else’s sin by consent, he mentions murder in particular.  Here are his words:

Being filled with … murder, …  they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

Romans, 1:29-32 (emphasis added).[4]

A person is guilty of a murder by consent when he acquiesces[5], even passively[6], or accedes, even reluctantly,[7] to the murder.  When we use vaccines which come from murder, we are (at least) passively accepting – i.e., giving in[8] to – the murders that make those vaccines available.

A person can incur guilt by consenting even after the murder.

Some types of sharing in someone else’s sin can only occur before the sin is committed, e.g., commanding or advising that the sin should be committed.  See, the above list (from The Penny Catechism) of ways to share someone else’s sin.

However, consent to the sin is different.  A person can consent to (i.e., acquiesce in) a murder either before or after it is committed, and so can incur guilt either way.

St. Thomas Aquinas teaches that a person can incur guilt by consenting to a murder which has already been committed.  He applies this principle (of guilt through post-murder consent) to a person who joins the Jewish religion after Christ’s murder.  Here are St. Thomas’ words:

When a person becomes a Jew, he becomes a participant in the killing of Christ.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Lectures on St. Matthew, ch.23, #1861.

By using those vaccines manufactured through the murders of babies, a person thus incurs guilt by consenting to (i.e., acquiescing in) the murders of those babies even though murders were already committed.

The passage of time does not erase the guilt of consenting to those murders.

A superficial objection could be raised that the vaccines were made from murdered babies more than five decades ago and surely that is “so long ago” that we should disregard the murders because they are too distant in time.

That is wrong.  God does not cease to treat a murder as murder merely because of the passage of time.[9]  Those who commit murder and those that consent to it, remain culpable.  The mere passage of time does not remove the need to repent.  The punishments of hell are forever because the passage of time does not erase guilt.

Just as God does not overlook culpability for murder simply because of the passage of time, man does not do so either.  In the civil law, there is typically no statute of limitations for murder.[10]  In other words, no murder is ever so remote in time that we “don’t worry about it”.

The murdering of the babies committed to “harvest” their cell lines, was premeditated and is first degree murder.  The passage of time does not change the guilt of the murders and does not eliminate the guilt of a person who consents to the murders.

No matter how much time passes, faithful and informed Catholics will never buy the vaccines manufactured through these murders!

The end does not justify the means

Another superficial objection could be raised that vaccines do much good and that they save so many lives that this “outweighs” the murders through which the vaccines are produced.  However, faithful and informed Catholics must never be complicit in evil because of “good” that can come from it.  The end does not justify the means!

Discerning God’s Will through standing up for principle.

A similar, superficial objection is that without receiving these sinful vaccines, I will

lose some opportunity, for example, the chance to enter (or send my dependents to) a particular school.  Again, the end does not justify the means!

If, despite your best efforts, you cannot receive a “conscience waiver” or “religious exemption” to attend (or send your dependents to) the school without receiving a sinful vaccine, that merely shows you that God does not want you to attend that particular school, etc

We are not justified in consenting to even the smallest of sins, much less, consenting to murder.

The evil at issue here is murder.  That is a very grave evil.  But even if a person were to suppose that receiving vaccines derived from the cell lines of murdered babies were “only” a venial sin, even the very smallest sin is an infinite evil in three ways.[11]  We should be ready to die rather than commit any sin.

Here is how St. Alphonsus de Liguori, Doctor of the Church, warns against committing even the smallest sin:

A single venial sin is more displeasing to God than all the good works we can perform.

St. Alphonsus de Liguori, Uniformity with God’s Will, §6.

Here is how St. John of the Cross, Doctor of the Church, warns us that the road to hell begins with a small sin:

Our Lord said in the Gospel: “He that is unfaithful in little will be unfaithful also in much.”  For he that avoids the small sin will not fall into the great sin; but great evil is inherent in the small sin, since it has already penetrated within the fence and wall of the heart; and as the proverb says: Once begun, half done.

Ascent of Mount Carmel, Book III, ch.20, section 1.

Here is how John Henry Cardinal Newman declares that the smallest sin is worse than all the physical suffering in the world:

The Catholic Church holds it better for the sun and moon to drop from heaven, for the earth to fail, and for all the many millions on it to die of starvation in extremest agony, as far as temporal affliction goes, than that one soul, I will not say, should be lost, but should commit one single venial sin, should tell one willful untruth, or should steal one poor farthing without excuse.

Apologia Vita Sua, by John Henry Cardinal Newman, Image Books, Doubleday, Garden City, New York, © 1956, p.324.

Information about which vaccines to refuse.

We must be informed Catholics.  This sometimes means doing our own research, if we cannot obtain reliable information from our doctor.  Here is a list of sinful vaccines the use of which connects a person to the murders of those babies.  https://cogforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/vaccineListOrigFormat.pdf  The list also identifies ethically permissible alternative vaccines where they are available.

If your doctor does not cooperate in your decision to refuse sinful vaccines, get a different doctor!

Conclusion

Some vaccines are produced through cell lines obtained from murdered babies.  There are three reasons getting these vaccines is a sin:

1.    Using these vaccines promotes future murders.

2.    Using these vaccines rewards those connected with the murders.

3.    We become culpable for the murders, by our consent.

We should stand up for Christ and reject these sinful vaccines.  We should also urge others to stand against these vaccines which break God’s Law (including the Natural Law).  At our Judgment we would want to have done so!

[3]              Here is summary of this basic truth from a common catechism:

328. When are we answerable for the sins of others?

We are answerable for the sins of others whenever we either cause them, or share in them, through our own fault.

329. In how many ways may we either cause or share the guilt of another’s sin?

We may either cause or share the guilt of another’s sin in nine ways:

1.    By counsel.

2.    By command.

3.    By consent.

4.    By provocation.

5.    By praise or flattery.

6.    By concealment.

7.    By being a partner in the sin.

8.    By silence.

9.    By defending the ill done.

[4]           Here is the longer quote from St. Paul:

Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers, detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, foolish, dissolute, without affection, without fidelity, without mercy.  Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

Romans, 1:29-32

[5]           One of the definitions of consent is: “acquiescence to or acceptance of something done or planned by another”.  https://www.thefreedictionary.com/consent

[6]           One of the definitions of acquiescence is: “passive assent or agreement without protest”.  https://www.thefreedictionary.com/acquiescence

[7]           Two of the definitions of accede are: “to consent” and “to give in”.  https://www.thefreedictionary.com/accede

[8]           Two of the definitions of accede are: “to consent” and “to give in”.  https://www.thefreedictionary.com/accede

[9]           St. Thomas Aquinas teaches the principle that a person is culpable for consenting to a murder even when that murder had been committed many centuries earlier.  St. Thomas applies this principle to a person who joins the Jewish religion long after Christ’s murder.  Here are St. Thomas’ words:

When a person becomes a Jew, he becomes a participant in the killing of Christ.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Lectures on St. Matthew, ch.23, #1861.

Thus, St. Thomas teaches that even the passage of a long, long time (1200 years, in St. Thomas’ time) after the murder, does not remove the culpability for consenting to it.  In other words, there is no “end date” for culpability by consenting to murder after it was committed.

Note also regarding St. Thomas’ own example, that he places culpability upon consent to the murder of Christ (through conversion to Judaism), not upon ethnic lineage of a person.  Thus, this culpability does not touch the Apostles or any other ethnically Jewish persons who did not (do not) consent to the murder of Christ.

[10]            Here is how one legal commentary summarized the state of the law:

Some crimes have no statutes of limitations.  As an example, murder typically has

               none.

https://resources.lawinfo.com/criminal-defense/criminal-statute-limitations-time-limits.html

Here is how the New York courts explain that murder does not become a non-prosecutable crime because of the passage of time:

Statutes of limitations are laws which say how long, after certain events, a case may be started based on those events. If the statute of limitations has run out, a case should not be started in court. If a case is started after the statute of limitations has run out, it is called time barred. A defendant or respondent can ask the court to dismiss the case if it is time barred by the statute of limitations.

Statute of limitations laws are based on fairness. Over time, memories fade, evidence is lost, and witnesses disappear.  People get on with their lives and don’t expect court cases from events in the past – unless a really horrible crime has been committed.

The amount of time by when a person or agency can start a case is different depending on the claim. For example, cases about real property have a long time period, while slander and libel have short time periods.  Some crimes, like murder, are so terrible that they often have no limitations period.

Except for when a government agency is sued, there is almost always at least one year from the date of an event to start a case no matter what type of claim it is. You should have no statute of limitations worries if you file your case within this one-year period.

God Wills Inequalities between People

Difference is the basis for the order in things.  If there were no differences between things, there could be no order between them.  The very idea of order includes within it the concept of priority and of posteriority, and hence, of difference and inequality.  In fact, that very separateness, i.e., the distinctions among things, is the principle of all order.[1]

God makes creatures unequal.

God made difference and inequality in all creatures.  As Ecclesiasticus teaches:

Why does one day excel another, and one light another, and one year another year…?  By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished.

Chapter 33, verses 7-8.

Therefore, just as God’s Wisdom is the cause of His making all creatures, so His Wisdom is the cause of Him making creatures unequal.[2]  By making some creatures inferior to other creatures, the whole of creation is more perfect than it otherwise would be.[3]

Inequality between individual persons

All men are equal in some ways.  For example, they are equal before the law, so that their rights as citizens are the same despite differences between them such as in height, in wealth, etc.

However, God made persons unequal in many ways and intends this inequality.  God made persons unequal in eyesight, mental acuity, natural prudence, athletic ability, beauty, musical talent, health, height, and in many other ways.  God intends these inequalities.

All mankind is bound together with duties to help those individuals who are more in need of help because of these natural inequalities.  So, a person who can see, can guide a blind man across the street, a taller person might reach something on a high shelf to help a shorter person.

Among all other inequalities between persons, some persons are naturally less prudent than some other persons.  These less prudent persons need to be helped and protected for their own good, including protecting them from their own imprudence.  There are many examples of this.  For example, for their own good, civil laws prohibit persons from making contracts which include interest charges greater than a statutory maximum interest rate.[4]  These laws and many other laws, are ways that society protects those persons against their own imprudence, because they are less able to protect themselves.

Differences between men in society

As explained above, the very idea of order includes within it the concept of priority and of posteriority, and hence, of difference.  In fact, that very separateness, i.e., the distinctions among people, is the principle of all social, political, economic, military and religious order, since difference is a principle of order.  For example, in a proper military order, an army cannot have all generals or all privates.  The army cannot have all equipment operators or all cooks.  Etc.

St. Paul emphasizes that God made men unequal and made them to have different roles, strengths and weaknesses.  Here are St. Paul’s words:

For as the body is one, and hath many members; and all the members of the body, whereas they are many, yet are one body, so also is Christ.  For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether bond or free; and in one Spirit we have all been made to drink.  For the body also is not one member, but many.  If the foot should say, because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?  And if the ear should say, because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?  If the whole body were the eye, where would be the hearing?  If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?  But now God hath set the members every one of them in the body as it hath pleased Him.  And if they all were one member, where would be the body?  But now there are many members indeed, yet one body.  And the eye cannot say to the hand: I need not thy help; nor again the head to the feet: I have no need of you.  Yea, much more those that seem to be the more feeble members of the body, are more necessary.  And such as we think to be the less honorable members of the body, about these we put more abundant honor; and those that are our uncomely parts, have more abundant comeliness.  But our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, giving to that which wanted the more abundant honor, that there might be no schism in the body; but the members might be mutually careful one for another.  And if one member suffer anything, all the members suffer with it; or if one member glory, all the members rejoice with it.

1 Corinthians, 12:12-27 (emphasis added).

As St. Paul shows us, God did not make every man to play whatever role that man chooses.  Some men are made more honorable members of society, some, less.  Some men are made the “eyes” of the collective group and some are made the “feet”.  Id.

St. Paul emphasizes that these differences between men give rise to the obligation that “the members might be mutually careful one for another”.  Id.

God intends differences and inequalities between groups as well as between individuals.

Just as God intends the countless inequalities between individuals, He also fully intends the inequalities between different groups/peoples/ethnicities/tribes.  To take a few of countless examples:

Ø  one people is better at a sport such as basketball, than any other peoples;

Ø  one people is more emotional, with a high-strung temperament, while another ethnic group is more calm, staid and reason-oriented;

Ø  one people is more creative in the fine arts, than some other peoples;

Ø  one people more apt to the sciences than some other peoples; and

Ø  one people is more capable in leadership in society than some other peoples.

God intends all these natural differences, both the strengths and the weaknesses.

Pope Leo XIII assures us that “there will ever be differences and inequalities of condition in the State.  Society cannot exist or be conceived of without them.”  Rerum Novarum, §34.

These differences between one people and another, are differences between the members of society on a larger scale.  St. Paul teaches us that these differences oblige “the members [to be] mutually careful one for another”.  1 Corinthians, 12:25.

All peoples and groups are bound together with duties in justice and charity.  Some peoples are more capable of leading and other peoples need more guidance, more protection and need to be led because of these natural inequalities that God Wills.

These inequalities include that some peoples are naturally less prudent and don’t guide themselves and others as well as other peoples do.  Such peoples need to be helped and protected for their own good.  A striking example of this need occurred in Colombia, after the Masonic revolution in the early 1800s:

The liberal revolutionary governments wanted to decrease the authority of the Catholic Church and to enact land “reforms”, including the abolition of the somewhat-feudal system governing the lives of the Indians (who comprised about one-third of the population).

The previous (Spanish) government had protected these Indians (like Medieval serfs were protected) by restricting their ability to freely sell the plots of land which they possessed and farmed.  In the name of freedom and the free market, the new liberal government allowed the Indians to sell their little plots of land.  Rich, unscrupulous men quickly induced most of the Indians to (naïvely and shortsightedly) sell their little plots, thus ruining the small amount of independence the Indians had enjoyed.  Within a few years, the ownership of the Indians’ lands was concentrated in the hands of a few rich and powerful families.  The Indians became landless tenants.  The land which had been cultivated by the Indians was then mostly used for grazing cattle.

In light of the natural inequalities between peoples, and because the men of society are bound together in justice and charity, persons and peoples more capable of leading have a duty to guide and protect those who are less capable.

It denies reason and these natural inequalities between peoples, to insist that a society’s or an organization’s leaders would be subject to “quotas” and include a “sampling” of “everybody”, i.e., representatives from each different group or people.  This is as foolish as insisting that a basketball team must fulfill “quotas” and have members who “represent” every people in proportion to every part of the public.

God’s intent that there be inequality in society includes His intent that there be economic inequality (viz., rich and poor).

The revolutionaries in society stir up discontent by complaining there is an “income gap” between the rich and the poor, or that this income “gap” is increasing.  However, an inequality in economic conditions is a natural reflection of other inequalities between men.  God Wills these inequalities.

Quoting earlier Doctors of the Church, St. Thomas explains that God Wills wealth inequality for both the rich and the poor, so that the rich might acquire the virtue of liberality and so that the poor might acquire the virtue of patience.  Here are his words:

The temporal goods which God grants us, are ours as to the ownership, but as to the use of them, they belong not to us alone but also to such others as we are able to succor out of what we have over and above our needs.  Hence Basil says [*Hom. super Luc. xii, 18]: “If you acknowledge them,” viz., your temporal goods, “as coming from God, is He unjust because He apportions them unequally?  Why are you rich while another is poor, unless it be that you may have the merit of a good stewardship, and he the reward of patience?  It is the hungry man’s bread that you withhold, the naked man’s cloak that you have stored away, the shoe of the barefoot that you have left to rot, the money of the needy that you have buried underground: and so you injure as many as you might help.”  Ambrose expresses himself in the same way.[5]

The Socialists seek to abolish private property, pretending that men are equal and that private property destroys this supposed equality.  Here is how Pope Leo XIII explains this truth:

Socialists proclaim the right of property to be a human invention repugnant to the natural equality of man ….[6]

The Catholic Church, however, recognizes that all men are unequal and their differences in wealth proceeds from their many natural inequalities.  Here is how Pope Leo XIII explains this truth:

[T]he Church, much more properly and practically, recognizes inequality among men, who are naturally different in strength of body and of mind; also, in the possession of goods, and it orders that right of property and of ownership, which proceeds from nature itself ….[7]

Pope St. Pius X condemned the false idea that:

every inequality of condition is an injustice, or at least, a diminution of justice.  Here we have a principle that conflicts sharply with the nature of things, a principle conducive to jealousy, injustice, and subversive to any social order.[8]

Conclusion

God made creatures different and unequal.  God made all men different and unequal to each other.  God made the peoples and groups of society different and unequal.  God intends that we help each other in our deficiencies and not that we try to impose a false equality and quota system so that all roles in society would be composed from “every group”.

[1]           Here is how St. Thomas Aquinas, greatest Doctor of the Church, teaches this important point, quoting Aristotle:

As the Philosopher says (Metaph. v, text. 16), the terms “before” and “after” are used in reference to some principle.  Now order implies that certain things are, in some way, before or after.  Hence wherever there is a principle, there must needs be also order of some kind.

Summa, IIa IIae, Q.26, a.1 respondeo.

[2]           Here is St. Thomas Aquinas’ fuller explanation of this truth:

[I]t must be said that as the wisdom of God is the cause of the distinction of things, so the same wisdom is the cause of their inequality.  This may be explained as follows.  A twofold distinction is found in things; one is a formal distinction as regards things differing specifically; the other is a material distinction as regards things differing numerically only.  And as the matter is on account of the form, material distinction exists for the sake of the formal distinction.  Hence, we see that in incorruptible things there is only one individual of each species, forasmuch as the species is sufficiently preserved in the one; whereas in things generated and corruptible there are many individuals of one species for the preservation of the species.  Whence it appears that formal distinction is of greater consequence than material.  Now, formal distinction always requires inequality, because as the Philosopher says (Metaph. viii, 10), the forms of things are like numbers in which species vary by addition or subtraction of unity.  Hence in natural things species seem to be arranged in degrees; as the mixed things are more perfect than the elements, and plants than minerals, and animals than plants, and men than other animals; and in each of these, one species is more perfect than others.  Therefore, as the divine wisdom is the cause of the distinction of things for the sake of the perfection of the universe, so it is the cause of inequality.  For the universe would not be perfect if only one grade of goodness were found in things.

Summa, Ia, Q.47, a.2 respondeo (emphasis added).

[3]           Here is St. Thomas Aquinas’ fuller explanation of this truth:

It is part of the best agent to produce an effect which is best in its entirety; but this does not mean that He makes every part of the whole the best absolutely, but in proportion to the whole; in the case of an animal, for instance, its goodness would be taken away if every part of it had the dignity of an eye.

Summa, Ia, Q.47, a.2, ad 1.

[4]           Here, for example, is a prohibition of excessive interest, taken from New York’s civil code of law:

4. Except as otherwise provided by law, interest shall not be charged,   taken  or  received  on any loan or forbearance at a rate exceeding such   rate of interest as may be authorized by law at the  time  the  loan  or forbearance  is  made,  whether  or  not the loan or forbearance is made   pursuant to a prior contract or commitment providing for a greater  rate   of  interest,  provided, however, that no change in the rate of interest prescribed in section fourteen-a of the banking law shall affect (a) the validity of a loan or forbearance made before the date such rate becomes effective, or (b) the enforceability of  such  loan  or  forbearance  in accordance  with  its  terms,  except  that  if  any loan or forbearance provides for an increase in the rate of interest during the term of such loan or forbearance, the increased rate shall not exceed  such  rate  of interest  as  may  have  been authorized by law at the time such loan or forbearance was made.

Encyclical, Quod Apostolici muneris, Dec. 28, 1878, Denz. 1851.  Here is the longer quote from Pope Leo XIII:

But also, Catholic wisdom most skillfully provides for public and domestic tranquility, supported by the precepts of divine law, through what it holds and teaches concerning the right of ownership and the distribution of goods which have been obtained for the necessities and uses of life.  For when Socialists proclaim the right of property to be a human invention repugnant to the natural equality of man, and, seeking to establish a community of goods, think that poverty is by no means to be endured with equanimity; and that the possessions and rights of the rich can be violated with impunity, the Church, much more properly and practically, recognizes inequality among men, who are naturally different in strength of body and of mind; also in the possession of goods, and it orders that right of property and of ownership, which proceeds from nature itself, be for everyone intact and inviolate; for it knows that theft and raping have been forbidden by God, the author and vindicator of every right, in such a way that one may not even look attentively upon (i.e., covet) the property of another, and “that thieves and robbers, no less than adulterers and idolators are excluded from the kingdom of heaven” [cf. 1 Cor. 6:9f.].

[8]           Here is the longer quote from Pope St. Pius X, condemning the ideas of a liberal and modernist group called the Sillon:

Teaching such doctrines, and applying them to its internal organization, the Sillon, therefore, sows erroneous and fatal notions on authority, liberty and obedience, among your Catholic youth.  The same is true of justice and equality; the Sillon says that it is striving to establish an era of equality which, by that very fact, would be also an era of greater justice.  Thus, to the Sillon, every inequality of condition is an injustice, or at least, a diminution of justice.  Here we have a principle that conflicts sharply with the nature of things, a principle conducive to jealously, injustice, and subversive to any social order.  Thus, [according to the claims of the Sillon] Democracy alone will bring about the reign of perfect justice!  Is this not an insult to other forms of government which are thereby debased to the level of sterile makeshifts?

Quoted from the encyclical sometimes called, On the Sillon and sometimes called Our Apostolic Mandate.

The Role and Work that God Gave to Woman

Catholic Candle note: Genuine conservatives and uncompromising traditionalists are extremely rare.  Most people who consider themselves conservative and uncompromising, are really only “conserving” the less extreme liberalism of a few decades ago.  They are not real conservatives, only less liberal than the society around them now.  They are not fully traditional, merely less-modernist.

One example of their liberal contamination is in regards to their position on the role of women.  Pseudo-traditionalists have so fully accepted a less radical version of the feminist heresy[1] around them, that when they learn their position contradicts the truth taught by the Doctors of the Catholic Church, they assure themselves that the Doctors must be wrong.

The truth is that human nature does not change, nor does God’s Plan, nor do the differences which Providence established between the sexes.  Those weak Catholics who have imbibed so much of the poison of our times, think wrongly that:

  • They themselves know unchanging human nature better than the greatest thinkers and teachers, e.g., St. Paul and St. Thomas Aquinas;

  • Those greatest thinkers and teachers, who lived in different centuries, throughout history, were all blinded by their many different “unenlightened” times (instead of we living now being misled by our own apostate times).  In other words, these misguided Catholics think that every time before our own time was “unenlightened” and only we understand human nature; and

  • The feminist enemies of Our Lord are correct and His friends and His True Church are wrong on the the roles of men and women, arising from the differences He created in them.

Anyone who considers the following article to be “out of date” or “unenlightened”, only shows the extent to which he has already accepted the norms of today’s corrupt society (feminism) and the revolt against God and Nature.

Raising children well is the Great Work of a woman’s life.[2]  Hers is a noble calling, a glorious vocation!  This is true on a natural and on a supernatural level.  Her role is magnificent and indispensable[3], viz., to form great saints and great men and women in the next generation of Catholic and civil society – although such greatness will often not be recognized by the world.  This Great Work has more lasting value and is more rewarding in itself, than the work her husband is doing, such as working in commerce to support their family.

Here is how the poet, William Ross Wallace, lauded motherhood on a natural level:

The Hand that Rocks the Cradle is the Hand that Rules the World

BLESSINGS on the hand of women!  Angels guard its strength and grace.

In the palace, cottage, hovel, oh, no matter where the place;

Would that never storms assailed it, rainbows ever gently curled,

For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.

Infancy’s the tender fountain, power may with beauty flow,

Mothers first to guide the streamlets, from them souls unresting grow —

Grow on for the good or evil, sunshine streamed or evil hurled,

For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.

Woman, how divine your mission, here upon our natal sod;

Keep – oh, keep the young heart open always to the breath of God!

All true trophies of the ages are from mother-love impearled,

For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.

Blessings on the hand of women!  Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,

And the sacred song is mingled with the worship in the sky –

Mingles where no tempest darkens, rainbows evermore are hurled;

For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.

On a supernatural level also, raising children well is the Great Work of a woman’s life.  This is God’s Plan for women and their crucial role in the human race and the salvation of souls.

In his autobiographical work, The Confessions, St. Augustine, Doctor of the Church, paid great tribute to his dear mother, St. Monica.  He recalled his mother’s:

devout conversation towards You [i.e., God], her holy tenderness and attentiveness towards us ….[4]

St. Augustine extolled his mother for many things, e.g., because:

she acted mercifully, and from the heart, forgave her debtors their debts ….  She had been the wife of one man, had requited her parents, had guided her house piously, was well-reported of, for good works, had brought up children ….  [St. Monica devoted herself to] care such as she might if she had been mother of us all; served us as if she had been daughter of us all.  Id.

St. Monica was not only a saintly instrument in converting her son, the great St. Augustine, but she was also the instrument for converting her pagan husband and doing countless other good works.  St. Augustine tenderly implored God for the soul of his saintly mother, in these words:

[L]et her rest in peace with her husband, before and after whom she was married to no other man; whom she obeyed with patience, bringing fruit to thee that she might also win him for thee.[5]  Id.

Truly, a Catholic mother who lives well her high calling of motherhood, should be revered!  Her life is a great success!  She has done important work on a natural and on a supernatural level!

How God perfectly equips women for this Great Work of their lives

Here is an analogy: God intends the organ of the eye for seeing.  Therefore, God designed the eye with everything necessary for doing this task well.  Likewise, God made a woman for the Great Work of raising children, and thus God designed her with everything necessary for doing this task well.

For good reason, women are called the softer sex.  God made women’s bodies softer and more delicate than men’s bodies.  God made women to bear children and they are her glory.  This is so central to women’s life that as soon as Eve sinned, God cursed her to pain and labor when she brought children into the world.  Whereas men want to leave some other, noteworthy accomplishment behind them when they die, women want to leave children.

Everything in a woman’s whole life, including the toys she played with as a child, is, and should be, geared to the Great Work of her life, viz., raising children well.[6]

Her Great Work is the reason God made a woman more compassionate, more nurturing, sweeter, more tender, more generous,[7] more loving, better listeners, more focused on personality and on detail.  God made her with exactly the qualities necessary for her to serve as the Heart of the Home.  She would make a poor Head of the Home, just as her husband would make a poor Heart.  Because God made her the way He did, a mother is much more likely than a father is, to compassionately notice one of their children is “having a bad day”, or needs comforting, etc.

To fulfill her life’s work well, a woman’s natural makeup makes her more emotional[8] and she reasons less clearly than her husband.  This is complemented and completed by her husband reasoning more carefully and being less emotional.[9]  Together, they are the parents that children need, to be raised well.  She is her husband’s helpmate[10] and his partner in their crucial vocation of raising their children well.[11]  This vocation is theirs together.  They should be lifelong best-friends and companions.[12]

Although the husband has a different role[13] in their family than the wife does, it is a complementary role.[14]  That the sexes are complementary means that neither sex has all strengths and that both need the help of the other.  Each sex has strengths to be used to improve the weaknesses of the other.

Because God made woman the way He did and made her for this Great Work of her life, it is good and natural for a girl to play with girls’ toys, e.g., dolls and not guns.[15]  This is part of her preparation for her Great Work.

But it is also good, natural, and according to God’s plan, for girls to interact differently than boys in countless other ways, throughout girlhood, and all along the way to adulthood and throughout life, learning and perfecting the homemaking arts, showing greater compassion (than their brothers do) for younger siblings who need help, who are crying, etc.  All of this is natural and is good practice for the Great Work of women’s lives.

The Catholic Church and all good civilizations have seen how essential good women are, and the Church and these civilizations shelter and protect women[16] to provide the optimal conditions for their Great Work.  Among countless other ways girls and women should be protected, is to provide them with separate education.[17]

A woman should pursue holiness for her own soul’s sake and also to prepare for her life’s Great Work

God expects Catholic women (as well as Catholic men) to sanctify themselves and grow in holiness for their individual perfection.[18]  But God also expects a Catholic woman to sanctify her soul to prepare herself for the Great Work of her life, viz., raising the children God sends her, as perfectly as possible.  For how could she foster sanctity and virtue in her children if she is not virtuous and holy herself?  She “cannot give what she does not have” (as the proverb says).

A woman should perfect her intellect for herself and to prepare for her life’s Great Work

God expects women to perfect all of the talents and faculties (i.e., abilities) He has given them, especially their highest faculty – their intellects.  The best way for them to perfect their intellects is through a Catholic Liberal Education.  It forms and perfects the mind by knowing the highest truths, about God and the things of God, both in the natural and supernatural order.  This is education par excellence!  It is the best for everybody, because they have a rational nature.  This is a beginning of that knowing which is the primary joy of heaven, viz., the Beatific Vision.[19]

This education makes a woman wise in an important way.  A man is even more logical than a woman and so a Catholic Liberal Education perfects his intellect even more.[20]  A husband should have a Catholic Liberal Education too, helping to further make him wiser[21] than his wife and increase his fitness to be head of his family.

An important part of woman’s Great Work of raising children well, is perfecting the children’s minds.  Again, the mother cannot give what she does not have.  Although a Catholic Liberal Education is ideal for everyone, in any time and place, this education is even more crucial in our times, where an uncompromising family almost never has a good school to which to send their children.

Homeschooling is not merely teaching the multiplication tables and phonics.  Parents know that raising and educating children involves countless discussions (and answering their questions) on virtually everything, including the highest truths.  Plainly, to do a good job in a woman’s Great Work of raising children well, she must, as much as she can, have an intellect perfected with the important truths, so necessary for homeschooling.

Women religious are still women, with a womanly life

The above summary principally concerns the majority of women, whom God calls to the married state.  However, this summary also applies similarly to most women religious, whom God calls to teach children, or be helpers of priests, unselfishly and humbly living the life of religious who are women, including practicing the womanly domestic arts.  Women religious are brides of Christ, faithful, generous, and submissive to their Divine Spouse.

Women’s employment before they are married

In addition to:

  • perfecting her soul with virtue and holiness;

  • perfecting her intellect with a true and profound Catholic Liberal Education in the highest eternal truths; and

  • being very well-accomplished in the womanly domestic arts;

it often happens that a woman has the time and need to earn money to repay school debts, and support herself before getting married.  (Further, she should keep busy because an idle life harms virtue.)

Thus, a young woman in this situation should obtain employment in one of the “helping professions”, especially one which is most aligned with, and constitutes further preparation for her Great Work of raising children, such as to teach children or to be a nurse.

She should not be a doctor, a lawyer[22], or practice a similar profession, for three reasons:

  1. The years of this training and the cost would rarely “pay off” because she would usually meet her husband and get married before she finished her studies or at least before paying off her additional school debts.  Further, this increased debt, as well as her time and effort obtaining this training, might easily create (or increase) the temptation to work outside of the home after marriage.
  2. Such employment is suited only for the most prudent and careful-thinking men, since such professions principally require the greatest prudence and the most careful thinking.

  1. Such professions are detrimental to her God-given role as man’s helpmate and assistant, rather than man’s boss and an authority over him.[23]  Such employment is both against the natural role God gave her as a woman and also will make it harder for her to be an obedient and submissive wife when she gets married.

A woman should not hold political office, be a police officer, a soldier or have a similar job for two reasons:

  1. This type of job opposes the way God made her because she would be wielding authority over men[24]; and

  1. Such work opposes her God-given nature as a nurturer, compassionate, a comforter, etc.  Being a policeman, soldier, etc., would require a woman to be aggressive, to harden herself, twisting and distorting the way God made women, to her detriment and the detriment of the Great Work of her life, viz., raising children well.[25]

During her years with children at home, a woman’s Great Work requires so much time, attention, devotion, and focus that a conscientious mother would wish there were “two of her” to accomplish all she rightly wants to accomplish at home, and all the good she wants to do for her family.  There is no question of her having “too much time on her hands” and not having enough important tasks to accomplish.[26]

This is why the Catholic Church teaches that one indication that a man isn’t ready to marry, is if he cannot financially support his family without his wife earning an income.  Anyone who thinks a mother’s work outside the home is more important than her family and homemaking duties, fails to understand the Great Work of her life, similar to failing to appreciate the importance of prayer.

Considering anyone else as an acceptable substitute for a mother being at home with her children, is a failure not only to understand Catholic teaching, but is also a failure to understand the family on even a natural level (although this natural truth was accepted and was obvious even to non-Catholics, until a few decades ago).

Anyone who thinks it is better for a mother to not be home with her children than to live in poverty or to default on their home mortgage, etc., fears poverty too much and fears sin too little[27], and fails to appreciate the eternal importance of the Great Work of a woman’s life.

A woman’s work after her children are grown

After her children are grown and are engaged in their own lives’ vocations, it is important for a woman (like a man in retirement) to continue to spend her life doing as much good as she can.  God gives us additional years of life because he wants us to do additional work for Him, not merely to live for our own amusement.

Besides a woman continuing to grow in holiness and continuing to study the Catholic Faith and increase her knowledge of important truths, it would often be good for her (especially if she is a widow and so no longer has a husband to care for), to perform additional good works like the ones she performed in her earlier years, e.g., helping to homeschool her grandchildren (and the children of other young families), or helping care for the sick and elderly, etc.

Beware of supposing that these truths of the Catholic Faith and of the Natural Law, are “out-of-date”!

If this article seems to you merely Catholic common sense (and also natural common sense), then congratulations!  You have managed to avoid the poison of the world (at least until now, and at least on this issue).

If you think that the above article is out-of-date or “unenlightened”, then beware!  You have been poisoned by the feminist heresy which is all around us!

Pope Leo XIII warns us against this error of rationalizing the rejection of St. Thomas’ teachings by falsely supposing it is out-of-date.  Pope Leo XIII declares that St. Thomas’ doctrine:

corresponds to the necessities not only of one historical period but rather of all times and periods of history ….[28]

St. Thomas faithfully teaches the true role and dignity of women!  This is a doctrine suited for “all times and periods of history”.  It is the feminists who are perverse, who combat and deny nature, trying to make themselves like men.

In his Syllabus of Errors, Pope Pius IX infallibly condemned the error that the principles of St. Thomas are not suitable for our modern times.  Here are his words:

Condemned:

The method and principles by which the old scholastic doctors [viz., St. Thomas Aquinas and his disciples] cultivated theology are no longer suitable to the demands of our times and to the progress of the sciences.[29]

Among the principles of St. Thomas, are those set forth above, concerning the role of women.  These Thomistic principles are admirably suited “to the demands of our times”, even though (and especially because) these principles are attacked on every side by Our Lord’s enemies!

St. Thomas’ teaching is not only his, but he synthesizes the finest wisdom and the truth from all of the other Fathers and Doctors put together.  Here is how Pope St. Pius X praises St. Thomas:

He [St. Thomas Aquinas] enlightened the Church more than all the other Doctors together; a man can derive more profit from his books in one year than from a lifetime spent in pondering the philosophy of others.[30]

Because St. Thomas so magnificently surpasses all other Doctors and teachers, the Church calls him the Common Doctor, that is, the best teacher to learn from on any question.  As Pope Pius XI declares, “the Church has adopted his philosophy for her own.”[31]

When we see St. Thomas repeat and expound on the teaching of St. Paul on the role of women, we see how “his [viz.., St. Thomas’] doctrine is in harmony with Divine revelation”, as Pope Pius XII declares.[32]

Feminism is one of the most pernicious modernist errors and we see how St. Thomas is the remedy against it.  Here is the way Pope Pius XI declared how St. Thomas is the antidote to all modern errors:

Again, if we are to avoid the errors which are the source and fountain-head of all the miseries of our time, the teaching of [St. Thomas] Aquinas refutes the theories propounded by Modernists in every sphere ….[33]

With the grave error of feminism, as well as the rest of modernism, we see how far the world has strayed from the truth!  St. Thomas is the remedy!

Just as all Catholics should especially revere St. Thomas for his unique greatness, likewise the feminists and other modernists especially fear him for that same reason.  Here is how Pope Pius XI explains this truth:

[St.] Thomas refutes the theories propounded by Modernists in every sphere ….  Modernists are so amply justified in fearing no Doctor of the Church so much as Thomas Aquinas.[34]

Conclusion

The Great Work of a woman’s life is to raise children well.  This is a sublime vocation!

She cannot do this well without preparing herself and living the role of a Catholic woman.  She must embrace her feminine character, preparing herself by:

  • perfecting her soul with virtue and holiness;

  • perfecting her intellect with a true and profound education in the highest eternal truths; and

  • being very well-accomplished in the womanly domestic arts.

Satan and his servants oppose and attack patriarchy, that is, the rule by the father.  But we see that a virtuous patriarchy is good, necessary and is Willed by God.

The current, politically correct program of Satan’s followers, is to oppose all (so-called) “sexism”, that is, the unequal treatment of individuals based on their sex.  But God Wills this different, unequal treatment of the sexes because they are different and unequal (viz., in as many ways as they are different).  Equal treatment of unequals is perverse, unjust and satanic!

There is no version of feminism that can be reconciled with Nature or with Divine revelation.  There is no good feminism; there is no true feminism; there is no Biblical feminism; there is no Catholic feminism.  Feminism is satanic and inherently evil, since it deliberately contradicts Nature and God’s plan.

Let us faithfully and docilely live the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Natural Law on the roles of men and women, and on all other matters!  Let us combat feminism and the other principal errors of our apostate times!

[1]          Heresy is an error against the Catholic Faith.  Here is how St. Thomas Aquinas explains this crucial truth:

We are speaking of heresy now as denoting a corruption of the Christian Faith.  Now it does not imply a corruption of the Christian faith, if a man has a false opinion in matters that are not of faith, for instance, in questions of geometry and so forth, which cannot belong to the faith by any means; but only when a person has a false opinion about things belonging to the faith.

Now a thing may be of the faith in two ways, as stated above; in one way, directly and principally, e.g. the articles of faith; in another way, indirectly and secondarily, e.g. those matters, the denial of which leads to the corruption of some article of faith; and there may be heresy in either way, even as there can be faith.

Summa, IIa IIae, Q.11, a.2, respondeo (emphasis added).

[2]          Because raising her children well is the Great Work of a woman’s life, Sacred Scripture infallibly connects that work directly to a woman’s own salvation.  For example, here is one way St. Paul makes that connection:

She [viz., a woman] shall be saved through childbearing; if she continues in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.”

1 Timothy 2:15.

Because this is the Great Work of her life, St. Paul says that “younger [women] should marry, bear children, be mistresses of families”.  1 Timothy, 5:14.

[3]          In 1917, Pope Benedict XV emphasized how women do tremendous good or evil for civilization.  Here are his words:

It is in fact amazing what the woman can do for the good of the human race, or for its ruin; if she should leave the common — [i.e., traditional] – road, both the civil and domestic orders are easily upset.

With the decline in religion, cultured women have lost their piety, also their sense of shame; many, in order to take up occupations ill-befitting their sex, took to imitating men; others abandoned the duties of the house-wife, for which they were fashioned, to cast themselves recklessly into the current of life.

Pope Benedict XV, Encyclical Natalis trecentesimi, (Woman in the Modern World), December, 27 1917.

[4]          The Confessions of St. Augustine, Bk. IX, ch. 13.

[5]          In our modernist age, how quickly and rashly we assume that our loved ones are already in heaven, based on evidence which is no better than the death of a typical practicing Catholic!  By contrast, St. Monica was a genuine saint and we see here that her son, a Doctor of the Church, did not assume she was in heaven.

To read more about how the creeping modernism of our time makes even Traditional Catholics quick to assume a person is in heaven, read this article: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/priests/sspx-travels-the-conciliar-path-toward-promoting-universal-salvation.html

Here is one example of the “new” liberal SSPX declaring one of its deceased priests to have entered heaven on the day he died.  https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/priests/sspx-travels-the-conciliar-path-toward-promoting-universal-salvation.html

[6]          Raising her children well, not other works, is the Great Work for which God intended women.  In other works, such as being partners in business, men help other men better than women do.  Here is one way St. Thomas Aquinas, greatest Doctor of the Catholic, explains this truth:

It was necessary that woman be made, as Scripture says, as a helpmate to the male; not indeed as a helpmate in some other work, as some have said, since in any other work a male can be more conveniently helped by another male than by woman; but as a helper in generation.

Summa Ia, Q.92, a.1, respondeo.

Sacred Scripture infallibly says the same thing in many ways.  For example, here is one way St. Paul states this truth:

[S]he [viz., woman] shall be saved through childbearing; if she continues in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.”

1 Timothy 2:15.

[7]          Here is one way that St. Thomas teaches that truth:

[M]en are wiser and more discerning and not so readily deceived as women are.  Again, women have a disposition to be more giving.  “As befits women, professing piety through good works.”  1 Timothy, 2:10.

Quoted from Lectures on St. Matthew’s Gospel, St. Thomas Aquinas, Ch.23, #1859 (emphasis added; quote from St. Paul in the original).

Although a man should do his best to be generous, it is more shameful for a woman to be stingy or selfish, than for a man – because it is further from how a woman should be – i.e., it is more against the way God made her.

[8]         Here is one way St. Thomas Aquinas explains this truth:

Since woman is free, she has the power of being counseled, but her counsel is powerless.  The reason for this is that, due to the gentleness (mollitiem) of her nature, her reason does not firmly adhere to her counsel, but is quickly changed therefrom on account of passions, such as concupiscence, or wrath, or fear, or things of the sort.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Commentary on Aristotle’s Treatise on Politics, Bk.1, lect.10, n.9 [159].

[9]          To good women (and good men), this truth is obvious.  But how ungodly is the rage of feminists when they hear this truth stated!  They insist that reason is as strong in them as in men and that emotion (which interferes with clear reasoning) is as subdued in them as in men.

Here we “smell” the strong stench of satanic pride, because feminists hate the way God made them and they hate men, but also want to be themselves just like men.  Feminists bubble forth discontent, resentment, and eventually, apostasy.  Satan sows discord, and his use of feminism to attack women is one of his chief works in our modern world.  Men are chiefly to blame for the feminist heresy, because they have not vigilantly guided and protected women and society.

Here is one way St. Thomas Aquinas states men’s duty to protect and guide women to avoid deceptions (including feminism):

[M]en are wiser and more discerning and not so readily deceived as women are.  …  Man is the head and counselor of the woman.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Lectures on St. Matthew’s Gospel, Ch.23, #1859.

Sacred Scripture infallibly teaches the same thing, e.g., “[T]he head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”  1 Corinthians, 11:3.

Women should be guided by their husbands (or fathers).  Here is one way Sacred Scripture infallibly teaches this truth: “But if they [women] would learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.”  1 Corinthians, 14:35.  (This same passage reminds every man of his duty to be a wise guide to his wife and daughters.)

Although women should do their best to be prudent, it is more shameful for a man to be foolish, than for a woman – because it is further from how men should be – i.e., more against the way God made them.

Feminists have contempt for the Great Work of their lives, viz., raising children well.  It is Satan’s masterstroke to make modern women aggressive, hard, and angry, and so they are ruined for the Great Work of their lives.  This is like Satan’s success making man soft, “sensitive” and emotional, and so ruining him for the Great Work of his own life.

The saints must always be our models, including our models for the roles of the sexes.  There are no feminists who are saints and no saints who are feminists.  The saints follow the nature and roles God gave them, humbly, faithfully, and joyfully.

Here, e.g., are the words of the humble anti-feminist, the great St. Teresa of Avila, when she was writing about a particular spiritual matter:

[T]here are no words whereby to explain, – at least, none for us women, who know so little; learned men can explain it better.

St. Teresa of Avila, Autobiography, ch.27, §4.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is the true model of wise and happy women.  True holiness, true happiness, and true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary always decrease in the same proportion in which a person imbibes the poison of feminism.

Feminism is anarchy in the family, which Satan designed to destroy this indispensable natural and supernatural pillar of civilization.  For a further treatment of this truth, read this article: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/faith/feminism-is-anarchy-in-the-family.html

[10]          God willed woman to be man’s helpmate.  Sacred Scripture infallibly explains why God created woman, in these words:

[T]he Lord God said: It is not good for man to be alone: let us make him a help like unto himself.

Genesis, 2:18.

Sacred Scripture infallibly says the same thing in other ways too, e.g.: “[M]an was not created for the woman: but the woman for the man” (1 Corinthians, 11:9) to help him raise a family.

[11]          The vocation of raising children includes raising them fully and well.  Here is one way the Summa explains this common sense truth:

For nature intends not only the begetting of offspring, but also its education and development until it reach the perfect state of man as man, and that is the state of virtue.

Suppl., Q.41, a.1, respondeo.

[12]          Here is one way St. Thomas explains this truth:

The greater the friendship, the firmer and the more lasting it is.  Now, between husband and wife there seems to be the greatest friendship; for they join … for the sharing of all of home life; hence a sign of this is that man leaves even his father and mother for the sake of his wife.

Summa Contra Gentiles, St. Thomas Aquinas, ch.123, §6 (emphasis added).

[13]          The Summa touches upon these different roles as follows:

Although the father ranks above the mother, the mother has more to do with the offspring than the father has, or we may say that woman was made chiefly in order to be man’s helpmate in relation to the offspring, whereas the man was not made for this purpose.

Suppl., Q.44, a.2 ad 1 (emphasis added).

[14]          Pope Pius XI repeated the important Catholic teaching that the sexes are different and complementary.  Here are the pope’s words:

[T]he two [sexes are] quite different in organism, in temperament, [and] in abilities ….  These [viz., men and women], in keeping with the wonderful designs of the Creator, are destined to complement each other in the family and in society, precisely because of their differences ….

Divini Illius Magistri, (On Christian Education), Pope Pius XI, §68 (emphasis added; bracketed words added for clarity).

Here is one way that St. Thomas Aquinas teaches regarding the complementariness of men’s and women’s roles and work:

[I]n other animals, there is communication between male and female only insofar as what was said above, namely only for the procreation of offspring; but in humans male and female cohabitate not only for the sake of the procreation of children, but also on account of those things that are necessary for human life.  It is immediately apparent that human works that are necessary for life are divided between male and female; such that some are appropriate for the man, such as are to be done outside, and others for the wife, such as sewing and other things that are to be done at home.  Therefore, they are sufficient for one another as far as each brings in his own works for the common good.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Commentary on Aristotle’s Ethics, Bk VIII, lect. 12, n.20 [1271] (emphasis added).

God intends the difference and inequality in the creatures He made, as part of the orderliness of creation.  For a fuller explanation of that Providential truth, read this article: https://catholiccandle.neocities.org/faith/god-wills-the-natural-inequalities-between-different-persons-and-between-different-peoples.html

[15]Further, because God made man and wife to be lifelong best-friends, God made marriage to be indissoluble, even under the Natural Law.  Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas, Suppl., Q.67, a.1.  This shows that divorce is evil and should be forbidden, even among pagans and Protestants.

Pope Pius XI repeated the important, perennial teaching of the Catholic Faith and the Natural Law, that the differences in the sexes should be fostered, and not denied and suppressed (as the enemies of Our Lord attempt to do).  Here are the pope’s words:

These [viz., men and women], in keeping with the wonderful designs of the Creator, are destined to complement each other in the family and in society, precisely because of their differences, which therefore ought to be maintained and encouraged during their years of formation, with the necessary distinction and corresponding separation ….

Divini Illius Magistri, (On Christian Education), Pope Pius XI, §68 (emphasis added; bracketed words added for clarity).

[16]          St. Thomas Aquinas gives an example of how men should protect women, in connection with Our Lord condemning the Scribes for “devouring the houses of widows”.  St. Thomas explains that the Scribes preyed upon widows precisely because they were without the protection of their husbands.  Here is St. Thomas’ example, quoting the Medieval Scriptural commentator, Theophylactus:

Feigning to be their protectors, the Scribes used to come to women who were left without the protection of their husbands, and by a pretense of prayer, a reverend exterior and hypocrisy, they used to deceive widows and thus also devour the houses of the rich.

Catena Aurea on St. Mark, St. Thomas Aquinas, ch.12, v.40 (emphasis added).

Sacred Scripture infallibly teaches the same thing, viz., that men should protect women.  For example, “[T]he head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”  1 Corinthians, 11:3.

[17]          As a good spiritual father, Pope Pius XI repeated the important, perennial teaching of the Catholic Faith and the Natural Law, that girls and women should be protected and their feminine nature fostered, by education which is separate whenever possible, from boys and men.  Here are the pope’s words:

False also and harmful to Christian education is the so-called method of “coeducation”.  This too, by many of its supporters, is founded upon [the heresy of] naturalism and the denial of original sin; but by all, upon a deplorable confusion of ideas that mistakes a leveling promiscuity and equality, for the legitimate association of the sexes.  The Creator has ordained and disposed perfect union of the sexes only in matrimony, and, with varying degrees of contact, in the family and in society.  Besides there is not in nature itself, which fashions the two quite different in organism, in temperament, in abilities, anything to suggest that there can be or ought to be promiscuity, and much less equality, in the training of the two sexes.  These, in keeping with the wonderful designs of the Creator, are destined to complement each other in the family and in society, precisely because of their differences, which therefore ought to be maintained and encouraged during their years of formation, with the necessary distinction and corresponding separation, according to age and circumstances. These principles, with due regard to time and place, must, in accordance with Christian prudence, be applied to all schools, particularly in the most delicate and decisive period of formation, that, namely, of adolescence; and in gymnastic exercises and deportment, special care must be had of Christian modesty in young women and girls, which is so gravely impaired by any kind of exhibition in public.”

Divini Illius Magistri, (On Christian Education), Pope Pius XI, §68 (emphasis added; bracketed words added for clarity).

[18]          One of the realities of the spiritual life and one of the differences (and inequalities) between men and women, is that God blessed women to be able to attain great spiritual perfection more easily than men.  Here is how St. Teresa of Avila stated this truth, citing the authority of her spiritual director, the great man of penance, St. Peter of Alcantara:

There are many more women than men to whom our Lord gives these [extraordinary] graces; I have heard the holy friar, Peter of Alcantara, say so, and, indeed, I know it myself.  He used to say that women made greater progress in this way [of perfection] than men did; and he gave excellent reasons for his opinion, all in favor of women ….

St. Theresa of Avila, Autobiography, ch.40, §12 (bracketed words added for clarity).

To help women with their role in the family and with the Great Work of their life, God made women different than men in ways which also make it easier for women to reach spiritual perfection.  For example,

  • God made a woman more inclined to be generous and self-sacrificing, than a man (which is a great help in motherhood), helping a woman to also be more generous with God;
  • God made a woman more inclined to be loving, than a man (which is a great help in motherhood), helping a woman to also be more loving with God;
  • God made a woman more inclined to focus on personality, than a man (which is a great help in motherhood), helping the woman to also cooperate with God’s work in developing a personal relationship with Our Lord, which is the spiritual life;

  • God made her more ready to obey than her husband (to fulfill her role in the family), helping her to also be more ready to obey God; and

  • God made a woman to want to lean on her husband and seek his support, making her more ready to also lean on God, which is a great help in acquiring holiness.

[19]          Summa Theologica, St. Thomas Aquinas, Suppl., Q.92, a.1.

[20]          St. Thomas states this truth in the following way:

Subjection is twofold. One is servile, by virtue of which a superior makes use of a subject for his own benefit; and this kind of subjection began after sin.  There is another kind of subjection which is called economic or civil, whereby the superior makes use of his subjects for their own benefit and good; and this kind of subjection existed even before sin.  For good order would have been wanting in the human family if some were not governed by others wiser than themselves.  So, by such a kind of subjection woman is naturally subject to man, because in man the discretion of reason predominates.

Summa, Ia, Q.92, a.1, ad 2.

[21]          Although men and women are both rational, reason is more predominant in men – they think more abstractly.  Women are more emotional – they are more inclined to bring personality and feeling into their reasoning).  Thus, men are able to advance further in the two types of wisdom provided in a Catholic Liberal Education:

  1. It is wisdom to know the highest truths about God (as well as other high truths), because they perfect the intellect and because they are so magnificent; and

  1. It is wisdom to know the important truths which help us to live well and live according to our rational nature, e.g., the moral science of ethics.

Summa, Ia, Q.45., a.1, respondeo; & Summa, Ia, Q.45., a.3, respondeo.

Both types of wisdom perfect the intellect, so men and women should pursuit both.

[22]          Here is one way that St. Thomas teaches this common sense truth of both nature and religion:

If therefore they [viz., women] ask and dispute in public, it would be a sign of shamelessness, and this is shameful to them.  Hence it also follows that in law the office of advocate is forbidden to women.

St. Thomas Aquinas, Lectures on 1 Corinthians, 14, lect. 7, n. 881.

[23]          The reason is that it is not woman’s role to lead (exercise leadership) in society.  This is why St. Paul explained that “I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence.”  1 Timothy, 2:12.

[24]          Isaiah mentions the rule of women as a measure of how corrupt a society (viz., Israel) is.  Here are Isaiah’s words: “As for my people, their oppressors have stripped them, and women have ruled over them”.  Isaias 3:12.

Summarizing the Divine Law (from St. Paul) and Natural Law (from Aristotle) concerning the perversity of a woman being in charge of a government, the Summa teaches:

According to the Apostle (1 Tim. 2:11; Titus 2:5), woman is in a state of subjection: wherefore she can have no spiritual jurisdiction, since the Philosopher [Aristotle] also says (Ethic. viii) that it is a corruption of public life when the government comes into the hands of a woman.

Supp. Q.19, a.3, ad 4 (emphasis added; bracketed word added for clarity).

This corruption of having a woman rule is obvious from the fact that she must not even rule her own family.  Rather, she must obey her husband.  St. Paul commands: “Wives, be subject to your husbands”.  Colossians, 3:18.  Therefore, how much more perverse it is for a woman to have authority over, and be the head of, all of the families of a country by being the head of the country!

[25]          A man’s role is to protect his family in both spiritual and temporal matters.  A woman’s role is to nurture her family and be a helpmate for her husband.

[26]          Luring mothers to leave their homes and children to join the workforce of businesses is one of the chief tools of communism and is one of the main ways Russia has spread its errors.  Here is how Pope Pius XI explained this truth:

Communism is particularly characterized by the rejection of any link that binds woman to the family and the home, and her emancipation is proclaimed as a basic principle.  She is withdrawn from the family and the care of her children, to be thrust instead into public life and collective production under the same conditions as man.  The care of home and children then devolves upon the collectivity.

Divini Redemptoris – On atheistic communism, Pope Pius XI, §11.

Pius XI condemns married women working outside the home, in the following words:

Neither this emancipation of the woman is real, nor is it the reasonable and worthy liberty convenient to the Christian and noble mission of the woman and wife.  It is the corruption of the feminine nature and maternal dignity, as well as the perversion of all the family, since the husband lacks his wife, the children their mother, and the entire family her vigilant guard.

On the contrary, this false liberty and unnatural equality with man is harmful for the woman herself, because at the moment that she steps down from the royal domestic throne to which she was raised by the Gospel, quickly she will fall into the ancient slavery of Paganism, becoming a mere instrument of man.

Pope Pius XI, Casti connubii, #75 (emphasis added).

[27]          Our focus should be spiritual.  Our material wants should be few and simple.  Our Lord teaches us:

Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat:  or what shall we

drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed?  For after all these things do the heathens seek.  For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things.  Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.

St. Matthew’s Gospel, 6:31-33.

St. Paul instructs us in the simplicity we need: “But, having food and wherewith to be covered, with these we are content”.  1 Timothy, 6:8.

[28]          Cum Hoc Sit, Pope Leo XIII, August 4, 1880.

[29]         Emphasis added; bracketed words added for clarity.

In Quanta Cura, Pope Pius IX used his ex cathedra (infallible) authority to condemn this error (#13) as part of a syllabus of errors condemned and attached to Quanta Cura.  Regarding these condemnations, the pope said:

We, truly mindful of Our Apostolic duty, and especially solicitous about our most holy religion, about sound doctrine and the salvation of souls divinely entrusted to Us, and about the good of human society itself, have decided to lift our voice again.  And so all and each evil opinion and doctrine individually mentioned in this letter, by Our Apostolic authority We reject, proscribe and condemn; and We wish and command that they be considered as absolutely rejected, proscribed and condemned by all the sons of the Catholic Church.

Thus, Pope Pius IX’s condemnation fulfills the conditions for infallibility set out in Vatican I’s document, Pastor Aeternus, because the pope was: 1) carrying out his duty as pastor and teacher of all Christians; 2) in accordance with his supreme apostolic authority; 3) on matters of faith or morals; 4) to be held by the universal Church.

Compromise in the Catacombs?

Catholic Candle note:  The following article helps to explain how salvation is surely possible for uncompromising Traditional Catholics, who for a time are without the Mass and Sacraments, at least in most places.  One doesn’t have to compromise his principles and overlook liberalism just so that he can have the Sacraments and the Mass (with a compromising priest).

If a person responds to the above question that he has to overlook some liberalism to “secure the sacraments” (at least in most places), then this person is really compromising, along with:

     1.  seven bishops;

     2.  hundreds of priests;

     3.  thousands of gullible followers of the liberal N-SSPX; and

     4.  other liberal religious communities, (like the Fraternity of St.

Sent. IV, ibid.).

Climate-Change serves to usher in the New World Order

This hoax aims at destroying what remains of freedom and capitalism[6] in the world’s largest capitalist nation (the U.S.) and destroying national sovereignty to pave the way for a New World Orderi.e., global governance.

This truth was admitted by Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, in February 2015.

Another of the U.N.’s top climate officials, Dr.

·         all carbon emissions are eliminated;

·         all people in the United States have a free higher education;

·         to enforce the sovereignty and land rights of indigenous peoples;

·         all people of the United States have free high-quality health care;

·         all people of the United States have affordable, safe, and adequate housing;

·         all people of the United States have healthy and affordable food;

·         all people of the United States have access to nature;

·         all employers are forced to give paid leave and paid vacations to their employees; and

·         many other mandates of socialism.[13]

Given this situation, it is essential to devise stronger and more efficiently organized international institutions, which functionaries who are appointed fairly by agreement among national governments and empowered to impose sanctions[19]

[6]           In a capitalistic economy, there is an absence of the government control which the socialists and the communists insist upon.

Words to Live by – from Catholic Tradition

The devil does not sleep, nor is the flesh yet dead; therefore, you must never cease your preparation for battle, because on the right and on the left are enemies who never rest.

A Healthy Mistrust of Self

Objective Truth Series – reflections article #5

The last reflection was a consideration of how important it is to have a complete submission to, union with, and trust in the Divine Will.

God wants us to have trust in Him, in fact, to have complete confidence in Him. As far as we are concerned, He doesn’t want us to trust in ourselves alone.  Surely, He wants us to have confidence to use the abilities that He gave us and that He expects us to use to do our duty of state. He expects us to not be slothful, having an irrational fear of the difficult. He doesn’t want us to be cowards when it comes to doing our duty.

Furthermore, God expects us to not be lazy and shirk our duties because we don’t “feel” like doing them or because we want to relax. But having confidence in the human abilities that God gave us does not mean we have abilities above our nature, or that we should think that we are using our abilities perfectly. No one should imagine he can do things that are super-human or that he is perfect in any respect.

For example, we cannot know the thoughts of others. We often guess what others are thinking, but unless another communicates his thoughts aloud or in writing, we cannot know with any certitude what another is thinking. Thus, we cannot judge the interior of another. We can only judge the external actions (fruits) of others. To judge the interior is called rash judgment. St. John Chrysostom said, “You will not easily find anyone, either the father of a family or a cloistered religious who is free from rash judgment.”[1]

This quote ought to give us pause and give us a fear and a healthy caution over our thoughts and speech.

We humans get so self-complacent, in other words, self-satisfied, and from this, conceit grows in the soul. Self-importance takes control of the soul usually in a creeping, subtle manner, and, before one knows it, he has over-confidence in himself. “Wherefore, he that thinketh himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall” (1st Corinthians 10; 12).

A quote like this should prick one’s conscience. Questions then bombard the mind like: Am I self-complacent? Do I say things or act as if I have all the answers, even about a single subject? Do I act over confident? Do I act as if I have been looking down on others, in any way? Do I act as if I realize that any good I have, especially the faith, or insights, has been given to me by God and that I know I do not deserve them? “What hast thou that thou hast not received?  And if thou hast received, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?”[2]  Do I forget this truth of which St. Paul reminds me? Do I acknowledge the gifts of God to me? If so, do I thank God for His gifts and tender mercies? Do I expect others to have received these same gifts and/or insights, and make all their decisions in the same manner that I make my decisions? And if others do not act in the same manner as I, do I look down on them as if they are big sinners or have something wrong with them?

Oh, how the conscience does prick when we realize how easily we humans get into this typical complacent frame of mind. We have to be so cautious and follow St. Paul’s advice, namely, “With fear and trembling work out your salvation” (Philippians Ch 2; 12). Likewise, we need to heed carefully Our Lord’s words, “Judge not, lest you be judged.” Here Our Lord is clearly warning against judging the interior of a person.

Nor can we forget our human roots, namely, how Eve was tempted with thinking she could become like God. The devil certainly knows how to trap us humans with this temptation and tries to puff us up. Self-complacence is one of the devil’s subtle tools to achieve this. Thus, we need to see that we need advice, and be willing to get advice. This will help us avoid self-complacence.

Our Lady explained the Rules for the Discernment of Spirits to St. Ignatius of Loyola, when giving him the Spiritual Exercises. She explained in Rule #5 in the Second Week that we must pay close attention to the course of our thoughts and look carefully at their beginning, middle, and end to see whether they are inspired by the good angel or the devil. This means a person must truly distrust himself and have a healthy mistrust of his own motive for acting. Again, Our Lady knows how the devil tricks us poor humans with self-conceit and, being Our Good Mother, she warns her children about his snares.

With all of the above in mind, perhaps our thoughts naturally will flow into something like the following:

Oh, my soul, if I have a treasure,

Am I grateful, or do I take pleasure?

Thinking this gem, is a gift self-bestowed

That it comes from God, to me, not owed?

Do I remember, my God to thank?

Am I really, with myself frank?

This gift, this talent, from where did it come?

Could I e’re pay for it, with any sum?

I am nothing, a worthless being

Whence this prize, that I am seeing?

Tis not really mine, to the Lord, belongs

Only He gets the credit, [only I do wrongs.]

God could punish, my self-conceit,

This would be fitting, would be meet.

That He could take, this gift away

And not make it last, not one more day

I must be grateful, give God His due

And rely on Him only, tis so true!

I need so much help, and advice

Each plan I make, I must think thrice

Where did it start, where does it lead?

Does it, my self-complacence, feed?

I must tremble, yea, I must quake

Do I work for me, or for God’s sake?

Dear Lord, help me ever recall

Self-complacence, is a trap for all

Help me ne’r judge, things in a flash

Help me avoid, e’er being rash

If I forget my need, of Thee, Lord

Love of self, will become a sword

Which will cut me, from what’s most dear

To displease Thee, give me healthy fear!

The Direct Road from Apostasy to Gender Confusion

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth:

Jesus saith to him:  I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.  No man cometh to the Father, but by Me.[1]

Truth is the mind’s conformity to reality.[2]

Therefore, when a man (or society) rejects Christ and His teaching Church, he is rejecting reality.

But man is a creature of habit.  He is often inconsistent and takes a while to come to see the full consequences of positions he has already accepted (or already rejected).  In other words, when a man rejects reality concerning one truth, he might continue to hold other truths which are inconsistent with his new opinion and it might take him a while to reject the reality of those further, related truths.

Thus, for example, when man rejects the Catholic Church’s authority, he might continue to believe in the Bible’s authority, although the Bible’s authority comes from the Catholic Church.

Similarly, Protestants who rejected the authority of the Catholic Church, did not immediately reject a man’s authority over his wife.  For a time, those Protestants only took rebellion from authority “so far”, and only gradually did their rebellion spread further, to other authority given by God and willed by Him.

But when a man rejects part of reality, he embarks on a reckless path leading to rejection of other parts of reality.  That is, rejecting a part of reality inevitably leads to rejecting more of reality – the only uncertainty is how long it will take to reject additional, particular parts of reality.

Thus, the Protestants reject the reality of the Catholic Church’s authority and this leads them down the road to feminism (which is rejecting the reality of a husband’s authority) and also to rejecting the different and unique roles of the sexes.[3]

Perhaps the Protestants who had first denied the authority of the Catholic Church, had thought it absurd to deny that man is the head of (and authority over) his wife.  This is because, while denying the Church’s authority, the difference between the roles of the sexes is a natural and supernatural truth which remained obvious for a time, even to Protestants.

But when man begins denying reality, the denials continue and become more unhinged from reality.  Man becomes more blinded to what had previously been obvious to him.  Man progressively denies even those things which are according to Nature and to common sense.  For example, man comes to accept that a male can become a female simply by deciding he is a female.

Without God’s help, man does not stop and he cannot stop descending down this destructive road.  Man accepts more and more false ideas he would have previously thought were absurd and impossible to accept.  Just like early apostates from Catholicism would have thought feminism to be absurd, likewise people would have thought it absurd, a few decades ago, that a male would become a female simply by deciding that he is one.

This delusion is not merely a few deranged individuals fooling themselves with this crazy fantasy – like believing they are Napoléon.  Society now accepts this absurdity in public[4] and now viciously attacks those who publicly deny such an obvious delusion.[5]

Similarly, society now accepts that a person can be neither male nor female if he simply decides he is neither.[6]  Society calls this person “non-binary”.  This delusion is a direct attack on Nature and on Sacred Scripture, because:

God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.[7]

People accept these delusions because the rejection of Christ does not end by simply rejecting Him.  He is the Truth and the Author of Truth.  By rejecting Him, man is led to progressively reject more and more aspects of reality.  Nor does he stop with these gender delusions.

Until man goes back to God and to His Catholic Church – which will happen only through the consecration of Russia to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart – the steady descent of (blind) society will continue.

There are many additional delusions – even more extreme and more irrational – which are ahead for blind and unrepentant mankind.  What are those future delusions?  Perhaps one of them is society publicly accepting the absurdity that people are cats[8], dogs[9], hippopotamuses[10] and dragons[11] when people decide that they are.  Society has not yet publicly accepted these delusions but they already exist on society’s fringes – like the gender delusions existed only on the fringes until a few decades ago.

Perhaps also, society will publicly accept the delusions of people claiming that they are whatever age they choose for themselves.[12]

We might think society could never be so blind as to accept these delusions.  However, who could ever have predicted a few decades ago, that society would publicly accept and tyrannically insist (as it does now) that you are whatever sex you say you are, and that you can “change” your gender whenever you choose to do so, by changing your mind.

We can glimpse the future in a survey by the Family Policy Institute in Washington which showed that many college students are ready to accept that a person is whatever gender, race or age he claims to be, no matter how absurd the claim is.[13]

This acceptance of delusion in place of reality, is part of God’s punishment for apostate man rejecting Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the Truth.

Truly:

When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing; they then become capable of believing in anything![14]

Conclusion

The truth is priceless!  Compromising the truth leads to blindness, delusion, and destruction!

No “advantage” – including being at peace with those around us – is worth the infinite “cost” of compromising.

Pray for the consecration of Russia to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart!

Let us thank God every day for the Traditional Catholic Faith and pray hard to keep it in all its purity!

Let us profess the Faith, whole and inviolate, until our dying breath!

[2]           Here is how St. Thomas Aquinas, the greatest Doctor of the Church, teaches this truth:

I answer that, As stated before, truth resides, in its primary aspect, in the intellect. Now since everything is true according as it has the form proper to its nature, the intellect, in so far as it is knowing, must be true, so far as it has the likeness of the thing known, this being its form, as knowing.  For this reason, truth is defined by the conformity of intellect and thing; and hence to know this conformity is to know truth.

Whatever doubts people have about such delusions are whispered behind closed doors because the public levers of society are against them.  Such doubts always occur when swallowing the devil’s delusions because man has an intellect and retains a nagging doubt whenever he accepts “black as white”, i.e., any lie of the devil.  This gender delusion is like many other lies accepted by society, such as the acceptance of divorce even though people understand that it breaks the couple’s vows on their wedding day that they will be faithful to each other until death.

The longer society accepts a particular lie – whether concerning divorce, changing genders or anything else, the more people will be accustomed to taking the lie for granted.
